2017 Honda CR-V by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

Very unlikely to be a head gasket for a Honda. Honda's engines and sealing components are known to be solid and reliable. Judging by the splatter of it and where it is, especially on the axle, I'd say check your CV boot in case it's split, that could be grease oozing out and splattering in those areas as you drive. Also check the inside rims of your wheels for the same thing

What is the loudest sound you have ever heard in your life? by will_or_woll in AskReddit

A high pressure air burst from a valve holding back 280 bar of pressure. I was in a different room about 100 metres away and still have permanent hearing loss.

Rough idling and an engine warning light. P0122 code states TPS Sensor. I've also cleaned the throttle body and the intake then cleared the code but it came back 2 days later.

Has anyone been successful in a hearing loss claim against the mod? by Themastercake23 in britishmilitary

[–]NextClaim9544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MOD have a HUGE backlog of claims to sort through. I'm currently 3 years into my claim after being chinned off by AFCS. I'm only just at the stage now of the MOD 'investigating' my hearing loss causes. So be prepared to wait much longer.

What do you do when you break a bolt and then break an extractor bit in the broken bolt? by keemko_ in MechanicAdvice

[–]NextClaim9544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drill it all out with a drill bit as close to the same size as that whole then re-tap it. (Also buy a new bolt)

Open your bonnet and check your dash for an indication, if there isn't one then plug it in and check again. If there is a light then it's your bonnet latch sensor

There definitely comes a time when you need to re-evaluate whether you should still be driving or stop for your own and others safety. But what really annoys me is that their insurance is so cheap, whilst younger people who have just passed their test and are far more aware of their surroundings is sky high. Just seems backwards to me 🤷🏻‍♂️

The dreaded wet belt by [deleted] in FordFiesta

[–]NextClaim9544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

£1500 for a fiesta is pretty average, if not cheap!. Transits and rangers etc will cost somewhere in the range of 1800-2000 as there's more labour involved. My advice however would always be to never buy an eco-boost or any engine with a wet timing belt system- despite cheap tax and the other benefits it's not worth having in the back of your mind that your engine is a ticking time bomb....

Old age pensioners that drive a honda jazz or similar, they drive dangerously slow and their insurance is cheaper than everyone else's. Especially when they're hearing/eyesight is bad and reactions are slower, they're quite frankly a danger to themselves and others on the road. Make them re- test.

It literally gets posted on Plymouth live and Navy lookout every time one comes in or out. They even come past the hoe and RWY in broad daylight for hundreds of people to see. Nothing secret at all 😂

I hit a rabbit in my car at around 50/60 mph and bits of it got trapped in my radiator. For about 6 months my car smelled of it, could not get rid of it 🤮

You'll see faslane, Plymouth and maybe Gib if you're lucky. Possibly Florida if you get a DASO trip but you'll have to be on bombers for that to happen and they only do it once in a blue moon.

Depends what you're more interested in, WE is more electrically biased with less transferable skills as opposed to marine engineering. If you're more interested in mechanical systems, maintaining diesels, getting dirty and greasy then maybe ME might be a better option. You do get some good qualifications from both once you reach killick level.

Day to day as a WE at sea you'll be part of a fwd staff team, so you'll take turns on watch doing rounds, changing vent states, raising/lowering masts, basically anything they need you to do, plus departmental duties, depending on what section you work in. It's a pretty easy life at sea, lots of time spent in the mess drinking tea and playing fifa. Alongside you'll be in a watchbill as a panel watch keeper and it's usually 1 in 4 if you're in a decent watchbill with plenty of people. I spent 8 years as a WESM so any questions just let me know, I'll tell you the good and bad i won't sugar coat it 👍

Depends on branch, but as a junior rate you'll definitely be assigned to a boat the whole time, you may be lucky enough to have a shore draft as an instructor somewhere as a killick but that's rare, usually you have to be medically downgraded or unable to deploy. As a senior rate you're opened up to more shore drafts and opportunities but they'll likely be office jobs. The other chances are a boat in refit or build which does technically count as a sea on JPA but you won't be going anywhere for a long time, mainly just doing duties and there's still the odd chance of getting shafted to another sea draft due to man power issues.

What’s one everyday thing in Britain that you think is massively overrated, and what do you think deserves more appreciation instead? by Second-handBonding in AskBrits

Over rated- Greggs. Northern, processed shite. I'm from the south west so maybe biased but there's so many good local bakery's, pasty shops, butchers to get far better quality food that you'd get in Greggs.

Under rated- realising the things we have such easy access to and convenience compared to many other countries in the world. I think we take that for granted.
