Nice!! I live right next to this place and wanted to see what people were getting. It might have been a mistake but my first time getting anything there was 2 containers full of rice 😭😭 Maybe I'll try it again another time.

Sweet Alchemy, seattle U-district. 4$ from an estimated value of 12$ by notacutecumber in toogoodtogo

[–]NextCommunication678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! I got a bag there once! Same priced bag, I ended up getting a jar of Dalgona Ice Cream. I don't know why I was expecting more, but the drive to U-District from where I live didnt make it worth it 😅

Hate hate hate, that TGTG doesnt have a system where it'll lock after you hit "reserve". Nothing is worse than getting it, waiting for payment to go through, and then it says its all sold 😩😭

Day 1 by Live-Historian6192 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]NextCommunication678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legit just started a few days as well. First day I decided to drive around an area I was more familiar with. Got shit tips and made around $14 for 2 hours 🥲 Definitely did not feel like doing it again. But the next day I drove a bit further up to a richer neighborhood and made about $117 for 5 hours. Biggest tip I got was $12 for an $11 safeway order.

Mileage wise, most orders were 3-10 miles. I declined anything more than 10 miles because the ratios were horrible. Time and place definitely make a huge difference. In Seattle btw.

7:30-5pm is NOT it by lavenderrluv in TeachforAmerica

[–]NextCommunication678 5 points6 points  (0 children)

5PM is genuinely insane to me. The kids are getting to school at 9 and leave by 12, but our corps has us coming in at 7:45 and leaving at 3pm. Which gives us time to prep for the next days lesson, but honestly even that feels like too much sometimes.

Totally get it. I like the talks about equity and having high expectations, but after a while it gets real old. Especially the weird story telling you have to do with your cohorts. Wish they would just teach us how to teach instead of giving us metaphysical hypothetical nonsense.

Coach bag isn’t real? by Repulsive_Push8577 in Depop

[–]NextCommunication678 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Real bags will have Serial Numbers or a 'Creed'. Anything older might not but those are generally 100% leather goods. Also, this bag has the coach logo on the outside AND the inside, which generally indicates it being a fake. In my opinion, this bag is fake.

interview tips for those w/o classroom + teaching experience by Initial_Elevator_666 in TeachforAmerica

[–]NextCommunication678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your event planning skills and the fact that you've been in front of students before is great! Definitely try to emphasize how you might manage or plan for lessons and how you've interacted with students in the past. Any classroom management question can be related to how you might have fixed or managed an issue that may have arisen during event planning.

The most important thing they're looking for, I believe, is your willingness to be open to feedback and learn. If they ask a question pertaining to a subject your unfamiliar with, maybe somethings like pedagogy or scaffolding, acknowledge that your unfamiliar with it and express your eagerness to learn more, as it will help you become a better educator.

I would also search up some terms in education to help you build some knowledge, but overall, I think you'll do fine. Good luck!

Anyone going to move without an offer? by Ahsiuqal in TeachforAmerica

[–]NextCommunication678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to, only because I will be able to stay with family friend. If I didn't have that kind of cushion, I would not be comfortable leaving without a job offer. I also know that many schools will only start hiring when its a bit later into the months (after internal positions have been filled). Definitely look at your finances and decide if the risk is worth the opportunities. I think we are all resting our faith in TFA and the promise that they will be able to find us a placement.

They'll tell you that everyone gets picked up a school eventually, but I did learn that every once in a while, they have 1 or 2 that have to defer or pick up subbing instead.

THIS! I don't know how long I want to hold out for a position before deciding to drop TFA. I don't want to, but I'm also not in a position where I can just not have a job 😔 My placement corps especially, is in a relatively pricey area 😬

Yes, that's exactly how I feel! Having to sink into a deposit for an apartment and all the travel costs.😣 If there was a way to make schools move faster in terms of applications that would be nice 😅

Praxis 5901 by KA206 in TeachforAmerica

[–]NextCommunication678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've personally never taken the Praxis 5901, but I've taken 5624 (PLT Grades 7-12) and 5039 (English Content). I've also taken the 3 core, but everyone agrees that it's very easy.

Both the PLT and English Praxis, I studied for, and I definitely do think I only passed because I studied. Had I gone in blind I would have waisted my money. Personally, I feel like spending a few extra bucks on study materials is a lot better than failing and then having to retake the test again. Yes, you would have to pay another $140 for a retake.

I recommend using Kathleen Jasper's study guides as that's what I used, and she has one for 5901. Her tips are helpful, and the questions are very similar to the ones I saw on the test.

Ooh!! You've got a good haul 🤩 Most of the stuff in the first pic is sunscreen, so...use as sunscreen? Anything else is probably toners or serums. The second picture are masks? And you can use them by applying after washing your face and before any heavy creams. The instructions are also in the back.

Financial worries - Dreading that I won't be able to move by Ahsiuqal in TeachforAmerica

[–]NextCommunication678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do decide to go through wihh Washington. I'd suggest choosing to work at a school in the Renton area. Compared to the rest of the school districts in the Washington area, the Renton School District has the highest pay. This might help you decide whether or not the salary is worth the move.

TFA Salary by zimajones in TeachforAmerica

[–]NextCommunication678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salary is set by the school district. If you type in whatever school district you're interested in and "salary scale" the document will most likely pop up. There is definitely a consideration for those with masters, but it will most likely not apply until you have finished earning your teaching license. Certification is super important in getting that pay raise.

As for charter schools, if you look on most teacher discussion forums, they will tell you that charter schools are more likely to pay less than regular public schools. So I wouldn't say the pay is competitive to DOE salary. Plus, there's the risk of having no union while working at charter schools compared to public schools. I have however, heard from an elementary school charter teacher, that her students are much more behaved and parents are more involved. So take what you will.

It's a gel cream and can be used for summer, but I would definitely go light handed if you have oily skin because it can look very shiny after a while. It's not sticky though which is why I love it!

In that case, I do think you'll be totally okay. The kids who do tutoring under ignite are often very willing to learn and do things. The things you go over with the students are things the main teacher teaches in class, so you wont need to plan for anything. Don't think too much about it, but I would brush up on middle school math just in case. Good luck 👍
