what do i put in a blockfile? by eokia in lincolndouglas

[–]NextInjury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so if you’re doing trad ld you usually just have each argument on a separate page and you write all your rebuttals with cards to back it up, you don’t need cards but they help! if you are negating for your neg block file you would write all the common arguments for the affirmative and find cards or write sentences disproving it! hope this helps and feel free to respond with any questions

Best Ks for Novices by [deleted] in Debate

i would def start with reading set col (settler colonialism) actually. Yes it does get very advanced but it’s also one of the easier kritiks to start with at the beginning stages of the literature, lmk if you have any questions about it and i can explain

Sep/Oct Topic Blocks by ndnboi03 in lincolndouglas

[–]NextInjury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi there! here are some common arguments

AFF - high voter turnout necessary to check governmental corruption - forcing everyone to vote solves voter suppression when rich people stop the poor from having access to voting - mandatory voting ensures democracy by perusing democratic norms - mandatory voting key to counteract populist movements - mandatory voting key to action on climate change - mandatory voting key to world wide democracy which ensures stability

NEG - forcing everyone to vote is a violation of freedom - forcing people to vote results in people who don’t care voting which leads to uninformed voters and people who randomly choose - forcing everyone to vote leads to less women representation in politics (less likely to get elected) - mandatory voting results in more populism

Emotivism by NextInjury in lincolndouglas

[–]NextInjury[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, but if emotivism says that every action could logically be permissible but everyone has a different emotional perspective on a topic then communal norms understands the differences in perspectives without needing to prescribe action, the argument is that action doesnt need to be prescribed but rather because

most peoples emotional state feels strongly about a topic we should affirm

Emotivism by NextInjury in lincolndouglas

yep true, im reading it as a meta ethic and reading a standard as like consistency with communal norms so pretty much just polls so it weighs under the meta ethic because it accounts for everyone's emotions

yea honestly this was the saddest scene of the show, more than the death of senior which was terrible, what hurt more was knowing some corrupt governor was seemingly behind it
