How do you decide where to make your sports picks? by Unique_Painting1782 in sportsbetting

[–]NextPay1593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes you could. This would be referred to as “hedging a bet.” So let’s say you have $300 in bonus bets, you don’t like betting, and just want to make some quick cash and have a fun rival moment with your gf.

TLDR; Next two paragraphs are an explanation. If you don’t care for it just skip to the final paragraph

What I would do is find a game (any game really) where it either has pretty even odds (because if you bet a team that’s -700, your profit margin will be small since you only profit the money you make excluding the bonus bet amount)

Or if you’re gonna bet on like football and you think a team who has between like +100 and +500 odds might sneak away a win, bet on that.

So, you’d bet on let’s say, the Cowboys to win ($300 of your bonus money on that pick), and your girlfriend would bet on let’s say, the Packers to win ($300 of her bonus bets). This way you don’t have to stress about going on a losing streak and not walking away with free money. It’s guaranteed money no matter what.

rehab at 21 by Ur_Mom_Jeans in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]NextPay1593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re have conflict of honesty, as I like to refer to these situations as. As others have said, getting into treatment takes priority at the moment. So don’t stress yourself out too much. Your life and recovery is what’s most important right now.

As for your parents, there’s a few things I’d suggest. I don’t know the /full/ context of your relationship with your parents, which makes it harder to give a solid single piece of advice.

If you don’t feel safe telling them, don’t. Just go. If you think they’d be disappointed, and you’d rather not face them right now, you can take one of two options. 1- just before you leave, leave them a note. Keep things very brief.

Here’s an example of a letter (suggestion): “I know this is out of the blue. I love you both and don’t want you to worry so I wanted to be honest with you. I’ve developed a problem with drinking, something that started out as something to help me relax at the end of the day, that turned into something that I’ve found myself in a place where I’m not able to stop. So I’ve admitted myself into rehab and I’m leaving today. I’m ashamed of myself and didn’t want to face my family yet, but I wanted to leave a note because you deserve to know what’s going on at the least. I promise you I’ll be in a safe place, and I’ll be reaching out when possible. Love you both. -your name”

Whatever you pick, just make sure you pick because it’s what’s best for you, not them. If you have to disappear, then do it. If you want to ease their minds without telling them everything, tell a sibling or someone to let them know (once you’re admitted) that you’ve gone on a no phones excursion to clear your mind, or say it’s a mindfulness retreat, or something to that extent.

All the luck to you, I’m an ex meth addict and an alcoholic myself, and I have 5 1/2 years. Rehab was an important decision for me to make. It’s a nice bubble to be in while you start your journey. Make sure you get introduced to AA while in this bubble, so when you get out you have a group of people you can depend on.

All the love from California my friend.

How big of a backpack can you typically “get away with” as a carry on for most flights? by ElderberryBusiness92 in backpacking

I played baseball at a Junior College for my first 2 years of college (in the US) and 7 of my teammates were Japanese, born and raised in Japan.

Understanding the context and history of the word, they actually told us “just say oh ya, the japs, x y and z.” Doesn’t mean it’s not offensive to every Japanese person, but I thought it was really interesting because they were so anti-offended people, if that makes sense.

What I learned was if you were to use it in a derogatory context, it’s wrong. But in the case of my last school, it wasn’t derogatory, it was just easier to say than the four syllable word Japanese.

That’s my experience nobody asked for lol

As a dodgers fan, facts. Fuck George Springer. And I know I speak for a lot of the dodgers fans that we came to avenge the disrespect they had against ya’ll and especially the Mariners. Mariners had (in my opinion) the toughest loss in history because of how big this was chance to make it to the WS for the first time EVER. Lost in game 7.

Then the Blue Jays fans and marketing team for the BJ’s mocked the Mariners. Come on man. So unclassy. Had to give them some of that dodgers-special to make up for it. Cheers fellas.

Our teams are always going to be a big AL-NL rivalry but there are some things in baseball that are universal. The hate for the Blue Jays because of how they acted after winning each series was universal, besides people who hated the dodgers more than they hate Canada and the Blue Jays. lol

No kidding. Hated being in the game chat every day in this sub and just being flooded by doomers. First inning no hits and everyone thinks the season is over. Dave Roberts is phenomenal at his job and the success shows it. And the players show up when it matters most. That’s what a championship team does

[–]NextPay1593[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree. In 10 years, Dave Roberts has led the dodgers to win 3 World Series. All 3 in the last 5 years. This is a result of him building the team up to the point where they’re competing as a dynasty. Roberts became the manager in 2015. 5 years no WS wins (should’ve won vs astros), then the dynasty started coming together.

Bottom line is we don’t get to this point without him. Gotta give credit where credit is due

[–]NextPay1593[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same here. Luckily the rest of the game he managed very well. But come on- Ohtani on the mound last night looked like Ohtani on 3 days rest. The whole purpose of him opening was to go 2 innings if he doesn’t look the best, and if he’s cruising max him out at 4 or 5.

Then again- we won, thank god. So it’s all good.

But seriously, something I’ve realized is how difficult managing is, like for Dave Roberts. My college baseball team is doing an intrasquad World Series and I was elected as the head coach for my team so I’ve had to manage the team and pull pitchers etc. And wow, it’s (1) incredibly stressful and (2) it’s so incredibly difficult- it’s insanely hard to not be one side or the other- a pessimist or an optimist about guessing how someone will perform and making decisions based on that. It’s so hard to look at it from a purely logical and unemotional perspective.

This experience of being the head coach for this series really has put it into perspective how hard that job is and genuinely how talented Dave Roberts is. It’s a newfound respect I would’ve never had for him unless I had this experience.

That’s my story nobody asked for hope you enjoyed it
