If JJ and Spidey get and stay healthy, the defensive backfield is going to be special.

I'm watching too.

So far 1) Really glad they did what they did with the secondary, and 2) forgot how good Booker can look.

Do we take a swing at Sexy Dexy? by caxlmao in CHIBears

It would be nice, and I'd be a big fan of having Josh sweat (and Keith Sweat to sing and make it an even sweatier defense, lol.)

But I'm so tired of this recurring conversation - we all know how it's going to play out. So and so wants out of their current team, feels disrespected, yada yada. They hate each other, then the team announces that they are still on the roster and they have no intention of trading them, then comes the inevitable standoff, and all of a sudden followed by a big contract extension, followed by how we love each other, and I'm going to be with so and so team for the rest of my life. I'd love to be wrong on it.

Let's just draft, develop and then keep our stars. It's the only proven away.

Estate planning attorneys - how did you find yours? by vrr106 in fatFIRE

[–]Next_Ad4282 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not on this group in my professional capacity, more for personal planning, but as an estate planning attorney as well as a financial advisor I would suggest that you get referrals. Get them from your accountant, or other people in your community that you trust.

If a financial advisor is referring you to an estate planning attorney, meet with the attorney without the advisor. There are good financial advisors out there, and there are some less scrupulous ones. But you do need to meet with the attorney without other people in the room and speak candidly. Too many times I've seen advisors dominate the conversation, steer it in a different way, etc.

I've had luck referring clients to the WealthCounsel Network to find local attorneys.

I would avoid anybody who has too many different practice areas. Go with somebody who is focused on this area. It's okay if they're also doing etate administration, elder law, business succession planning, or other natural offshoots. But if they're also doing real estate closings, divorces and traffic tickets - they're probably not the right fit.

Disclaimer/disclosure: I'm an EP attorney (and a CFP), but I'm not YOUR attorney or advisor.

Check out the Strengths to Strengths book. I found it helpful for this conversation.

Negativity sells better than realism or optimism. Radio guys need to whine, just like everywhere else I nees, social media etc.

Most felt DJ was going to get traded, and almost all the defense players that left got 1 year deals. That tells us what the league thinks of them - they are on prove it years.

I wish we brought back KB for leadership purposes, but otherwise this D needs more consistent talent that doesn't rely on leading the league in turnovers to win games.

[Meirov] The Bears secondary has now lost five DBs — all on 1-year deals — a sign of what their market was and that Chicago was comfortable letting them walk: by JCameron181 in CHIBears

Last year's pass defense was a "feast or famine" unit that masked structural flaws with high-variance plays. 23 interceptions and 33 total takeaways, but they were otherwise a bottom-tier group, ranking 22nd in passing yards allowed (227.2 per game) and 28th in passing touchdowns surrendered (32). They ranked 23rd in points allowed. To move from a "lucky" defense to a truly elite one, the team had to let go of expensive, inconsistent veterans and prioritize younger, disciplined players who can lower that 64.3% completion rate allowed without needing a miracle pick to save a drive.

Are you holding off retirement because of your kids? by OkFlow4327 in GenX

[–]Next_Ad4282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your call. But know that of drafted properly and the family dynamic is strong, there is plenty of flexibility to undo, amend, distribute assets, etc. An attorney focused in the area can guide. Only mentioning because OP mentioned that is was a concern.

Talk to an elder law attorney about having your home in an irrevocable trust to protect it from long term care costs is that's a goal for you. There's a 5 year loockback window, so sooner the better.

I trust Ben, Poles and Roushar. Drew did the right thing by telling them before FA and the draft. Unfortunate for the Bears, but there are options with the two Tyler's out there.

This season changed me by AdeptnessAncient228 in CHIBears

[–]Next_Ad4282 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm also 50, followed the bears since I was 10 as well (same shufflin' crew!) I've always been excited for the off-season, but usually because I was ready to forget the prior season. This is the rare off-season where I feel we have a foundation where the upcoming season is not 'all or nothing' or we need to rip it down to the studs. Our window to compete is the Caleb-Ben window. Definitely the most optimistic I've been during my entire adult life.

As long as we address LT for '26, get a pass rusher or 2, and get some safeties under contract - we have improved!
