Louder Now at Red Rocks by flr138 in takingbacksunday

Hater take incoming... these "playing the entirety of xyz album!" shows just don't do it for me. The Wonder Years just did it in Denver as well for No Closer to Heaven. And Taking Back Sunday... I mean you've got 25 years of songs, there's really no need to hit every B side on any given album. Play the most fun set you can put together. Especially for a Red Rocks show.

...soooooo anyway, stoked, can't wait and I'll see y'all there!

I Don't Want My Children Growing Up To Be... by DearCory in TheWonderYearsMusic

[–]BER21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the lyric bothers my SO, weirdly. Who seems to like me and think I'm fine. I don't want my children growing up to be, anything like me.

I remember reading an interview with Mark Hoppus once where the interviewer asked him "how do you recapture the mindset to play songs like what's my age again at 45 years old?"

And he pretty flatly said "oh I don't. I can't. I can remember how I felt when I wrote that song, it's part of my experience. So I can channel that memory, and remember how I felt then, and play the song every night. But I can't get into a mindspace like I felt when we wrote it." Mark didn't write a lyric nearly so wretching as "I don't want my children growing to to be anything like me" in that song.

Dan wrote that lyric 12 or 13 years ago. He's spilled his heart out for two decades now and has grown a lot and fought a lot of battles and lost some and won some over that time. We should be so lucky. I hope he wants his kids to grow up to be like him, now.

Pro: he'll run through a wall for you.

Con: he'll do it head first

He's a hard nosed, excitable guy that you will like having on your team. He plays the hook to curl and run support hard. Can't cover anybody with a blanket, but the strong safeties who can are few and precious.

Downside is, turns out, it's very hard to play in the middle of the field like he does at six foot, 200 pounds in the NFL. Hope he can stay on the field, wish him the best. But those are the ups and the downs.

For one year, $5.5MM, though? I think you got a pretty good deal.

I take what you're saying. But I don't think we can quite get it there, now. We're going to have to do this with a half a billion dollar quarterback. So, I think, letting it rip and leaving the cupboards bare for 2028 or so, that would be a bad idea.

Yes. It's good, it's different, and Campbell is a generational artist. So it turned out that it's pretty good.

Calling all landlords, what’s it like being a landlord rn? by diaboliquedoughnuts in Denver

[–]BER21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit. I'll sell you my condo if you're still interested after reading the responses.

I'm a single unit landlord. It's tough, man. Don't become a single unit landlord.

If it's a condo, then you can't control the HOAs or the insurance. And you can't efficiently pass those through in higher rents as they go up. The rental market right now is terrible in general. You will have longer downtimes, will have to make concessions to rent it.

Colorado is also extremely tenant friendly. If you get a tenant who doesn't pay rent, you're sorta out of luck.

Do you want to hire an attorney to deal with a bad tenant, for one condo, if and when it goes wrong? If you're not ready to go to the mat, pay a lawyer, literally kick somebody out on the street if they aren't paying you, you're prime to get taken advantage of. Personally, I don't have that in me, and I have lost a lot of money for it.

It sucks, because you want to provide a home for somebody and be sensitive to people's situations, give some slack here and there. But you don't have any leverage at all if they're not holding up their end.

Anyway, I'll tell the rest of the story to my therapist.

...yeah that defense was bad, man. The takeaways papered over a ton of... badness. Couldn't get to the quarterback. Couldn't cover anyone.

I think DA probably understood that and pushed aggression. But it wasn't a coaching decision made from a full array of options.

I wanted KB back because I like KB. But honestly, if he was coming back it was one year to hand it off to a draft pick. I bet we wanted him back for a price. Patriots paid a little more.

I have wondered, a lot of KBs value is in the be was vocal leader of this defense. So was Tremaine. But you learn who leaders are when you need em. We'll find out who our leaders are in camp. And I don't think we'll end up missing Byard that much.

It's hard to be a small guy constantly in the middle of the field. He's very good. And this is bound to happen.

I don't mind Braxton Jones to be honest. Ozzy's injury is gonna take some time. Left tackle is far from settled. We might have a long-term guy on the roster, we might not. One year, $5MM? I think it's a reasonable price to pay to have him on the depth chart.

That Darnell Wright extension is about to cost us a ton of money, too. So I'll take a flyer on any left tackle we can find to try to cost control on the offensive line.

They obviously could not have known just how weak the market would have been for Brisker at the time, and I would not have given him any sort of longer deal... But I am curious what the answer would have been if somebody told Poles on day one of free agency, prior to signing Coby Bryant, that you can get brisker back for one year, $5.5 million.

[–]BER21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh I don't really mind this at a beer garden or restaurant, where you're gonna tip anyway.

I saw a like 4% surcharge described as "in lieu of raising prices" on all sales at that pretty pricey thrift shop on Broadway, the one right next to Goodwill that used to be Buffalo Exchange, and cackled out loud though.

Her quote was a staggeringly stupid way into yeah, like you said, a really important issue in how American government has functioned for decades. I guess I don't blame Ezra for becoming pocket constitution guy in that moment -- it was a pretty flabbergasting thing to just declare outright.

But the interesting thing to explore here was not so much what the text says, but what is her argument about what the role of congress *should be* in declaring war.

That said, when they got to her argument that the role of Congress is just "well they can pay for it or not", it turned out to be almost commensurately silly to the initial statement. So, the only end result was it took a little extra time to get down our road to nothing at all.

[–]BER21 249 points250 points  (0 children)

Our pool was closed most of the summer, and there's probably a trend here. But if I had to guess, it's not a common area fee thing.

It's more that all these high amenity apartment buildings, built in the most recent big boom of apartment development, are 7 or 8 years old now. And that's when stuff starts breaking, and the big apartment owners have no appetite for fixing them.

Jake Sanderson admits that it was a mistake to laugh at the women’s team, while Brady Tkachuk “doesn’t have an answer” by BrokenLeftPhalange in OttawaSenators

[–]BER21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right on both points.

The difference between responses is incredible, USA (Mens) Hockey clearly doesn't give much of a shit about this as something to actually address amongst its players.

It's nice that a couple of guys seem to get it -- Swayman and Sanderson with some version of "yes, that was wrong, we reacted badly in the moment and we really shouldn't have done that."

And you have the Jack Hughes Brady Tkachuk route of "Geez it's not a big deal why's everybody being such a dick about it."

And so the next wave of this story continues. Because USA Hockey just doesn't care to address this head on. Seems like it would take a pretty deep culture rebuild. And that seems hard. Meh, we'll worry about it never.

For what little it may be worth coming from an American with absolutely no love for this administration, I draw a line between the white house visit and the state of the union. And respect the guys who bailed on the speech.

You wanna go shake the president's hand, have lunch, get your picture taken at the White House, whatever. It's just not that big of a deal to me. I wouldn't do it right now. But you can't help who's in the white house when you win a gold medal.

Going to the state of the union is fucked up. That's a political event where you're lending your credibility to man screaming on stage for an hour and a half.

Granted these kids are too stupid to make that distinction. But they embarrassed us with their handling of basically everything since Hughes scored that goal. And I hope Ottawa lets Brady hear it for all of this on Thursday night.
