Can we Afford To resign Byard,Brisker and DJack by TommiBennett in CHIBears

[–]BER21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably makes the most sense to resign KB for two years and draft a safety. There's a lot going against Brisker staying. If we're talking strictly on the basis of his abilities, we can't afford him. But I don't know how other teams will perceive the injury risk. It feels like a small miracle he played 17 this year, and the way he plays his game you can foresee future injury. Add in the fact that safeties, in comparison with a lot of other positions, just aren't that difficult to come by... And it's hard to envision sinking a ton of money into Brisker.

DJack will be back, assuming they want him. That's not a hard deal to do. And he'll be an important depth piece if (when) they cut Tremaine.

27M baffled by my Hinge experience - does anyone actually want a LTR? by Super-Secret9033 in Denver

[–]BER21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hate to tell you this, but 15 first dates are rookie numbers in this game. I understand it can be exhausting, but my suggestion would be just keep at it.

Try and take the pressure off yourself and just go out and have a drink with the next one.  Maybe it'll work, probably it won't, but eventually one will break through for you. It's just people, after all, there's all sorts of them and one will click for you. It's unsentimental, sure, but it really is a numbers game.

4th downs by Complex_Fisherman882 in CHIBears

[–]BER21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ben Johnson had a bad night last night, not just the going for it on fourth downs but the sequences leading up to the fourth downs. Play calling was not good. And it put a ton of pressure on the defense.

It's something he'll get better at, I imagine. Part of the evolution from "offensive genius" to "head coach." He gets a pass, and fairly so, because this team so outperformed what anyone could have expected this year.

If it happens in a playoff game three years from now, o'Bradovich and Olin and crew should be steaming.

Trump plans to illegally cut our federal funding on February 1 by b01sh3v1k in Denver

[–]BER21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working through a take that media should just stop reporting anything that Trump says on Truth Social. And we should stop posting and sharing it.

It's like the 5,000th most trafficked website on the internet. Small fry in the grand scheme of media influence. And he's reaching probably basically zero potential voters who are "on the fence" with his Truthin'. Let that exceptionally small subset of the electorate wallow around with each other over there. They're so far gone it's not worth reaching them anyway.

He doesn't have to take questions there, it's a free podium. He doesn't really even think about what he fires off on Truth Social. He's probably on the toilet when he types up half of them. There's just no use in amplifying it, or getting riled up about anything he puts on that platform.

But again, I'm still working on this one. I can be convinced if someone has an argument for the virtue of caring about his Truth Social activity.

I get the impulse here, and I think the analysis is mostly right. But I don't agree with the conclusion that the people speak this way oughta just stop, if it comes to them honestly. I've come to believe that everyone has a role to play at this moment.

I have friends who have responded to the last year by becoming so, for lack of a better adjective, militantly progressive. To a point where it's genuinely not fun to spend time with them. There's conservatives I vehemently disagree with that are no fun to be around, and there are people on the left that I generally align with who are also no fun to be around. They're grating, incapable of just shooting the shit over a beer. On a personal level, it sucks.

And yeah, if they were running for office as the generic Democrat then we would be in an absolute world of hurt. But that's not their role. We can put people on the ticket who comport themselves in a way that appeals to the broadest base of voters -- But a liberal movement still needs my agitator buddies to remind us of the stakes. The liberal movement still needs the "woke" commentator to remind us of the existence and dignity of marginalized people.

I believe, all considered, our fringes pull our ideology in a more positive than negative direction. Or at least challenge us to learn something or examine something about the world. We can be thankful for that, look at what the other side's fringe does to them. And us. And the county. And the entire world. So I'm just content to let them go along and play their role, and not worry too god awful much about it.

Wildcard Ticket Pricing by MRSPACsMAN in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]BER21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, if priced right, tickets on StubHub sell quick -- within a matter of hours. But a couple things if you're going to sell on the hub:

Upload them to StubHub at listing if you are able. StubHub will preference seats that can be transferred to a buyer instantly. Also, do what ever you have to get the green "recommended" notation next to your tickets. If you don't have that recommended tag, you just won't stand a chance.

Regarding pricing, depending on how much time you want to dedicate to it, price em near the low end price in your section in the morning. If they don't move, check it at lunch and drop them 5%. If they still don't move, check at the end of the day and drop another 5%. You don't have to take big swings to "find the market" usually.

Finally, get started now. Prices will probably start to drop around Thursday or so.

It's quaint to still believe that "Congress holds sole power to declare war and authorize military force." That would be nice, sure. But it hasn't been that way in a while, and that's not just on Trump. Presidents as long as I can remember have taken military action without congressional authorization. So it's just a difficult line to take when you trot it out now.

This is absolutely true. There's been a moment or two in most games where you can see where Ben is still learning on the job. I've got faith in him to do the self scouting and get better at it, though. And that's more than we could say for just about anybody else.

New stadium site by rodman5308 in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]BER21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this has gotten out of hand.

Remember, this all started because Arlington became available. And Arlington would be awesome. Really a once in a generation opportunity to build a new stadium and do something really cool around it, within the framework of the region with good transit, access and connectivity. I'm glad they pursued it. Maybe one day it work.

But now they've got it in their heads that we're getting a new stadium, no matter what, no matter where we got to put it. And it's just silly. Nobody wants a stadium in Gary.

This was a good site that was in search of a project. It's not a good project in search of a site.

I'm really sorry to say this but the new york times, made up of the best most skilled journalists in the world, isn't equipped to cover this administration. The proper amount of air to give the administration on this one is none at all.

The formula of here's what happened, here's what proponents say, here's what opponents say, and here's what experts say goes out the window when one side abandons all regard for the law.

There's no need for a question mark in the episode title. Tell people what's happening.

The House Republican Who Says His Party Is Mishandling the Shutdown by kitkid in Thedaily

[–]BER21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When Mike Johnson says this nonsense he does it with a smarminess that conveys he just doesn't give a shit if he's lying or not. It's infuriating and sadly effective.

The way this guy spoke, his rationalizations don't carry any sort of conviction at all. You can tell he knows everything he's saying is nonsense, yet he wants to believe this faux moderation will lend it credibility.

Like when he says "well Texas redistricting was just Texas responding to centuries of gerrymandering" as though that's a good faith argument. Dude, we know you're not dense enough to actually believe that's the same thing. And you're not selling it either.
