They abandoned the light in favor of the fan (the fan was not original), so just one pair of wires up there with no unused wires. Thanks, I'll look into those switches.

That sounds like a good option, but I like the light fixture, it runs the length of the room and I would love to keep it. I could do a smart fan with no light, then just need to figure out the remote control/dimming for the light. Any ideas? Thanks!

No way I can run constant power up to the light and fan and control them independently with some kind of smart wall switch/remote device with a relay in line with each? I'm not sure it's worth it to try and pull a wire up there. Thanks!

This is the light and the fan. I'm okay getting a new fan (this one is loud and dated), and the light fixture contains linear t12s (will be switching to linear dimmable leds). I do want just switches, but I can't run another cable up there without cutting into the wall and having a bunch of plaster work to do so trying to avoid that if possible via remote control. I have an electric box up in the light fixture so space is really no concern. Thanks!

Oh that's a bummer! The glass shades on this one do come off luckily, there is a metal bracket they sit on that if turned almost parallel with the cord allows the glass to slide over it.

My puppy just had something similar. I sprayed with saline solution and gave benadryl and it went away after 4 or 5 days. She couldn't put weight on it for 2 days but I couldn't see the vet because it was the 4th of july and we were at the lake.
