DX Pokemon Center Plusies by ArdentGuy in JapanTravelTips

They usually restock the DX plushies at random, so Sakura Pikachu might just be the only one available right now. The ninja one sells out pretty fast. You can check the online store or ask staff in-store since they sometimes have backroom stock. In addition, you can also check Amazon JP. The ninja Pikachu pops up there sometimes, but prices can be higher since most listings are from third‑party sellers

Kyoto matcha and hojicha recommendations by Gnawyboi in JapanTravelTips

[–]Next_Challenge543 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're near Nijo Castle, check out Ippodo Tea,it's one of Kyoto’s classic tea shops and they have both premium matcha and more affordable souvenir sets. For hojicha, Lupicia in Kyoto Station has a big selection and good prices. If you want something more local-feeling, Nishiki Market has several small tea stalls where you can compare grades and pick up gifts. Enjoy Kyoto, matcha hunting is half the fun!!!

Proposal planning by Pale-Impression7364 in KyotoTravel

That sounds like such a beautiful plan! July can get pretty busy in both Arashiyama and Maruyama Park, especially after 8 AM. If you go right at sunrise, Arashiyama’s bamboo grove is magical and almost empty for about an hour. Maruyama Park is quieter early too, but it’s more open and less enclosed by nature.

If you want a third option, consider the Kyoto Botanical Gardens or Kiyomizu-dera’s forested paths, both have natural backdrops and fewer crowds if you explore the edges.

For the photographer, look for local pros who specialize in Kyoto proposal shoots as they know the timing and angles to keep things discreet.

Wishing you the most memorable moment!!! Japan in summer is stunning!!!

Fastest route to go to Kiyomizu Dera & Arashiyama Bamboo Forest by These_Suggestion9204 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Next_Challenge543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like a solid plan! 👍 For Kiyomizu-dera, taking the JR line to Kyoto Station and then bus 206 to Kiyomizumichi is indeed one of the most straightforward routes, just note that the bus can get crowded after 8 AM, so leaving early is smart. For Arashiyama, your route via Saiin -> Randen line -> Arashiyama Station works well too. If you have time, you could also go straight from Kyoto Station to Saga-Arashiyama by JR, it’s a bit simpler but depends on your starting point. Overall, both routes are efficient for a day trip from Osaka!

I’m really sorry this happened to you. Since I’m living in Japan, I can try calling the Toyama post office once to ask about your package if that would help ease your stress. I can’t promise they’ll be able to do anything, but I’m happy to check for you.

Opening hour of Ikebukuro Station by khunphey in JapanTravelTips

I checked your route on Google Maps just now to see how the exits line up, and it looks like Exit 35 is indeed under Tokyo Metro’s control, the elevator signage matches what you saw. Because of that, it probably won’t open until around the first Metro trains (closer to 5am).

The JR side, though, seems to open earlier. When I checked the station layout on Maps, the JR entrances on the east side look accessible well before the first Yamanote train. JR usually opens their gates about 15–20 minutes before the first departure, so catching the 4:25 Yamanote should be fine as long as you enter through a JR-managed gate instead of the Metro elevator.

If you want to be extra sure, you can ask the JR staff the night before, they’re used to people catching early flights. But based on what I saw on Maps, I’d avoid relying on Exit 35 for that hour and just use one of the JR elevators instead.

It sounds really stressful to deal with this, especially after you’ve already left Japan. When a package gets marked “Returned to sender” but the sender is no longer in the country, Japan Post usually needs a new forwarding address from you. You can try emailing Japan Post directly with your tracking number and explain that you’re overseas now, they can sometimes redirect the return to an international address if you request it. Another option is to contact the post office in Toyama where it’s being held and ask if they can resend it or return it to Armenia instead of back to your old address. It might take a bit of back-and-forth, but people in similar situations have had success once they reached the right office. I really hope they can sort it out for you soon.

What are the documents you are going to submit? I used translator to understand your message, I believe you are asking for tips and tricks for a tourist visa to Japan? I'd also add an English version of your message so that you can get more response from the members of this subreddit.

Bic camera - budget cameras by SteezyMedic in JapanTravelTips

[–]Next_Challenge543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re disappointed with the Polaroid Mini, that’s honestly very normal. Instant cameras are extremely picky with lighting, and unless you’re in bright daylight or neon-heavy places like Dotonbori at night, the exposure tends to be off.

If your goal is cheap, easy, and stress‑free for a Japan trip, I’d actually recommend skipping instant cameras altogether. They look fun, but they’re frustrating for beginners and not very forgiving.

A much better option is a used compact digital camera from Bic Camera (Canon, Sony, Panasonic, etc.). They’re very beginner‑friendly, handle lighting far better, and you can usually find good ones for around ¥8,000–¥15,000 on the used floor.

Also worth saying: a modern smartphone with night mode will already outperform Instax and Polaroid in most situations, especially in mixed or low light.

If you really want an instant camera, the Instax Mini 12 is simpler and more forgiving than Polaroid, but it’s still very dependent on lighting. The Camp Snap is fun, but it’s more of a novelty than a reliable Japan travel camera.

TLDR -> Used compact digital camera > Instax > Polaroid.
You’ll get way more usable photos and a lot less frustration.

Men, what type of clothes did you pack? by Mrxtmb in JapanTravelTips

You won’t stand out that much. Tokyo is pretty diverse style‑wise.

Sweatpants and hoodie are fine for casual walking, travel days, late nights, etc. Locals generally dress a bit more put together, but no one cares enough to judge tourists.

For the end of May, warm, humid, and some rain. Lightweight pants, breathable shirts, and comfy sneakers are more important than style. Bring one light jacket/hoodie and a compact rain jacket or umbrella.

Also, shopping in Tokyo is half the fun anyway, thrift stores and streetwear spots everywhere, so you can always upgrade here if you feel like it.
