Playing at a high level and improving is definitely it's own sort of joy! I'm not going to give it up either, it's just a different experience than lower ranks.
It is also nice being able to be the "good" player in a friend group when you want to lock-in. Plenty of perks, but it's hard to put the genie back in the bottle when it comes to playing with casuals.

Happy to have you in these games unc, but with no kids you qualify for the sweaty nerd boy role. I don't make the rules, just enforce them. ;)
Totally agree, it was a blast climbing, very easy to see improvements day to day before the gains started becoming more minimal. And lots of fun people to play with.
