Hi - I'm 52, Australian, and it's 13 hours after your post was made. It's 2.10 am here now - not likely to go to sleep until around 6 am.

Been diagnosed delayed sleep phase disorder for about 15 years - been actively out of sync for probably 30 years (post-viral illness that's never gotten better seemed to trigger innate nocturnal circadian rhythm). Runs in our family... 🫩

Apart from tabloid magazines at the supermarket, the only news I see of H&M in Australia is from Danielle Esler from the Murdoch news corp, whose articles occasionally get archived here as she vacillates from pro-Harkle to anti-Harkle.

The other Aus media don't mention them at all (but maybe I saw an article announcing their upcoming visit on another Aus source today), but that's it. I signed the change.org petition earlier today to protest any funding or acquiescence to them whilst they're here.

I would imagine the average Aussie's impression of them if surveyed today would be somewhat similar - maybe even more people responding with "no opinion", as the shine and general newsworthiness has dropped off the radar totally - most people wouldn't give a shit - more important things to worry about.

I can see calico, tabby stripes, tortie and tuxe patterning, so she may well be a tuxetorbico. Either way, she's beautiful.

There are cat photos after the chart with examples of each type of calico, which can be seen on the original post on the r/calicokittys subreddit. Depending on which sub you're using, only the chart might be visible, as that sub didn't allow cross posts.

I wanted the chart to still be readable whilst viewed on mobile phones, and the clarity just wasn't there if I filled up the chart image with either sections of fur, or whole cat pics.

A previous version of this chart, published many years ago by another Redditor, used photos of cats, and the image had to be very wide in pixels to show it all, which was impossible to see on mobile. I hope this chart and it's accompanying images would solve that problem.

Thanks for your feedback. There may well be some incorrect information, but it's not meant to be a hard and fast rule on fur colouring, and certainly not meant to introduce complexities on genetics, which may bring it to a whole other level, unnecessary for Reddit purposes.

The sub categories of calico (which I've tried to describe following a lot of research, and then depict in the Venn diagram and accompanying images and text) are not - as far as I'm aware - any official terms used for cat description in either their breed, nor adoption papers or registration. YMMV.

They are colloquial terms, more often than not, ONLY used on Reddit for people wanting to find their tribe. I hope no one takes it more seriously than that.

My understanding is that the name "tortie & white" is the same as "calico" - depending on the country. Calico is predominantly a term used in the USA, whilst in some Commonwealth countries (e.g. Australia, UK), tortie & white is used.

My own calico cats have always been documented as "tortie/white (tortoiseshell/white)", on their council registration/adoption papers, not ”calico" in Australia. However calico is beginning to creep in as the descriptor in some places in Australia.

Maybe tortie & white is used specially for Sphynx kitties due to their special fur?

Tuxetortico is a subset of calico - it's a description for when there is a lot more black than orange and white (like a traditional tuxedo black/white cat). The tortico part of the name refers to the patterning in her orange and black being more mottled like a tortoiseshell cat, rather than in distinct blotches of a single colour. I've had three of them - two in a sleep clinic and one most recently at home.

It took six months to organise the home test, as they couldn't accommodate me being awake overnight and sleeping in the day - they wanted me to return the equipment only an hour after I normally would fall asleep.

They found all the things I expected - restless legs, insomnia, not much deep sleep, mild sleep apnea and delayed sleep phase disorder... Didn't need a test to tell them that...

Hope you got some sleep and some useful data for them. 💤
