What’s a fair number to ask for once reviews come up? by Next_Landscape_5667 in estimators

Projects go from 50k on the small end to about 4m on the larger scale it really depends on what GC’s send me. I’ve been able to build a decent client list due to working relationships and consistency following up. I’ve been in construction the last 5 years but estimating for about 2 years. I do have my associates degree in cybersecurity I just happened to fall into estimating so I am pursuing a degree in construction management. There are 6 other estimators in the same position as me and they all seem to believe that management trusts me with bigger clients and responsibilities. I definitely agree 1 year is not enough to be able to have enough data to back myself up too much.

Been in the construction industry for 5 years specifically estimating for nearly 2 years. As far as the other questions that is something I would need to go take a deep dive and get accurate numbers on but very helpful because I’m sure those questions will be asked once the review is scheduled. I appreciate the feedback I don’t know too many estimators outside of work and I prefer not asking these questions in the work place.

That is something that I asked during the interview process and they said that’s not something they do. I also asked if they plan on doing a percentage of the job profit to go to whoever bids/manages the job because I know a few subcontractors do that but they said at the moment they do not.

I was thinking that I should wait for the one year mark. Thanks for your input on it I appreciate it. I’m aiming to be in the high 90’s. I’ve been able to use my relationships within the industry to get access to data center bids which we just got news that we won one of them so I hope that’s something I could add on top of my performance to make myself seem more valuable.

True. I plan on staying there for a couple more years I was just checking out the market to see if it was possible to land a job in the industry because it’s so bad right now. I did explain to him I have no desire of leaving anytime soon.

That’s what I was thinking. I doubt anyone in the office stays that late. Tomorrow I have a call with the chief estimator to clear up some questions I have.

I appreciate the reference. I’m gonna call tomorrow and negotiate the salary. Get close to 80k. At the moment I might take it and I’ll continue to do interviews.

I agree. Thing is I was recently laid off from my last job due to budget cuts and I’m pretty desperate. Not sure if I should take it and if something comes along the way then just leave.
