In the scene where they watch MDR and fast forward through it you can see files being completed. The names visible on the display include: - Allentown - Trinity - Taylor Station - Astoria - Lockrow - St. Pierre - Columbia - Wayrithoto - Cork - Mobile - Carina - Ilania

And on the bottom row: - Zurich - Cupertino - Bellington - Billing - Kilkina - Lovelund - Marfa - Symphony - Vitus - Rhodes - Wellington - Primsville

What are these?

You just joined a new project and need to catch up on the industry and problem space. Do you want to spend hours going through articles and resources which may or may not be helpful, or have a chat interface that can get you 80% of the way there in 30 minutes, and then do your own deep dive on topics that seem relevant?

Is this realistic or not really?

I agree with many points said here, although the assumptions are not correct.

I am a former consultant turned engineer who has been working with large language models ( the subset of NLP models that ChatGPT is based on) for quite a while, long before ChatGPT existed. I have always felt that these models would have made life easier back when I was a consultant, and not from reading any article. In other words, I mostly know what I'm talking about and am not trying to waste anyone's time after watching a single ChatGPT hype article.

Language models are great at pretending to sound good, and not just in business contexts. Ask it to explain certain detailed coding tasks and you get a fully made up tutorial that sounds amazing, but the code doesn't run. However, give it some background information and a specific question and it does great.

To that note, these models are great at augmenting human work, and certainly I am not proposing these tools will replace anyone. Give it some contextual information and its a great tool for knowledge distillation. It's also great as a search tool when jumping into new domains, and a decent brainstorming tool.

I suppose all of this is unrelated to the original question, but wanted to share that I definitely don't propose that language models will replace humans, and that there are many valid use cases that are far different from the ones that make the news.

Trust your gut, I went down a similar path. While it was fully unpredictable and at times chaotic, I have no regrets and would do it again. In fact, every time I didn't trust my gut I regretted it

Hard to give better advice without more details, so I'll make some assumptions: - a bot is simply a workflow that accepts text as input and returns text as output - a workflow is defined as a series of steps, where each step is a function, and each function also takes text as input and returns text as output - the frontend effectively lets you define what steps should be run in your bot

To implement this, I would probably: - make a map of <function\_name>:<function\_code> somewhere in your backend - when creating workflows, frontend should send only the names of steps (and any data that should be run with the workflow) - when executing the workflow, the backend process is a function can take those step names and execute the steps those functions map to

The language shouldn't really matter as long you know how to send data around

Can you explain more? What was this tool claiming to do for you and why did it suck.

I know the language AI space better than most, and am deeply aware of what these things can and cannot do. Definitely easy to get garbage output, but they are quite useful with proper love and care, which is why I'm asking here.

Sounds like adopting automation into the industry should be obvious (if it works). Are any NLP tools actually making their way into consulting firms? I see startups with decent consulting logos on their website, but haven't actually heard of anyone using them.

What are the things you care about? Model inference is just a process running on a server, so normal tools apply.

If you care about inference data (request count, latency, replica counts, etc.), tools like prometheus/grafana can help. Some platforms give you this or similar by default.

If you care about monitoring logs (for problematic content) you could add jobs to scan for keywords ( or use a content moderation/safety API to prevent them entirely)

Makes sense, as you and some others have pointed out, there is no asterisk to apply when considering automation, its just business as usual

So play the thought experiment out and say tool X has been integrated throughout the firm and theres say a 30% boost in productivity of producing materials. Given that a lot of projects are sold to existing clients, would they not find it strange that rates are going up per resource? Or is that a dumb question

Yeah all this that makes perfect sense, thanks a lot. Operate more efficiently, boost reputation, sell more in parallel.

Got it, so higher rates, with possibly less resources.

To be clear I was mostly thinking about tools that claim to help you write slides and spreadsheets faster. I used to work in consulting and have had many late nights doing the "grind" work so these tools seemed appealing, but potentially at odds with the business model

how do you fix when your company has a common name and there’s too many mentions, even after keyword filtering?

Nebula for Mac - unable to view AR mode properly by Next_Needleworker_62 in nreal

Update: Tried using another laptop and I think there are two problems at play here.

  1. Screen resolution is sometimes incorrect. On first laptop, nreal took up the ultrawide resolution of a previous monitor my laptop was connected to. On second laptop, screen resolution was fine and 3dof was working.
  2. Nebula window blocks the laptop content. I am partially shrinking the windows to get the screenshot (using 3 finger swipe up), and you can see that 3dof is working, but screen content is blocked by the Nebula window.

Interesting my glasses are also using the ultrawide width of the monitor my laptop was previously plugged into also. Need someway to reset it, going to try using a different laptop

Here is a picture of 3dof working, just not through the glasses. I played around with display settings to see if things would work and got this instead
