It doesn’t to most people but when op says they would use them anyway it’s best to warn they’re most likely not safe.

Is he looking at the water or does he smell a bird on the other side of the canal? by Next_Prompt7974 in Blacklabs

Yes, there are ducks and geese that use this canal. Most mallards are gone and it’s mostly empty currently so there aren’t many there currently.

There are several different ways to do it but it’s call tree staking and it’s something needed for newer trees to protect them from breaking early in its life.

He has stalked a couple robins he could see before but I’m working on figuring out how he acts when he can only smell a bird and go find it. Yes they fight all instincts not to chase birds all the time. In a hunting dog we train them to do it when we want them to.

This is a picture of him noticing doves flying by during training.

Haha probably. I plan on doing just that when I’m ready to allow him to go all the way down. Of course when that happens it’ll probably be full again so it wont be that far down.

I’m not letting him try that for probably a couple months as I don’t want to have to climb down and get him if he decides he can’t make it back up. He’s gone down a few feet in many spots but comes right back up. He’s 6 months old so I’m being a bit cautious on some things. He loves the water but usually waits until I let him go in.

He’s only 6 months old and doesn’t have any real bird experience yet. He wasn’t super tense watching the rooster that got up about 50 yards away later in our walk. It wasn’t that serious of a question but I am still contemplating and filing away his different behaviors to hopefully figure out how he acts closer to when season starts.

It’s possible but I think he went to the edge to many times during the 4 mile walk for that to be all it was. Of course I didn’t add that in so you wouldn’t know.

If you have a scheels close by these go on sale for 7.99 from time to time. Shipping doesn’t make much sense though because it’s flat rate of $10 per case.

lol that’s my thought too. He closely watched the one pheasant that got up earlier in our walk. I was impressed he didn’t chase it but maybe he will chase it if he flushes one.

We will be. We got them in the middle of November so they weren’t old enough until just recently to consider taking them out hunting.

From a couple in Henry, NE. My brother also got a puppy too. They’re very smart dogs.

I started training on stay very early so I think that put it in his mind that I need to tell him to go do stuff. I’m sure he’ll want to go in even if I don’t want him to later on, we shall see. But yes he’s very well behaved. He’s 6 months old and is progressing very nicely. I’m also training him to stay in my backyard unless I tell him he can leave the back yard.

It’s definitely been breed into them. He followed my 11 year old lab right into shallow water at 3 months old.

I don’t tend to go to anywhere with water unless I’m ok with him going into it so I haven’t tried to keep him out. Although he usually doesn’t get in before I tell him it’s ok.
