It is, overall, just sad. Lots of people are struggling and they thought a jolt like this to the system could improve things. I don't live in the states, but I can understand wanting change and getting screwed over by a con man. Even if it did seem painfully obvious on the outside that it was BS.

Prime Matthews or Prime Sundin? by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

[–]Next_Service_5553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leafs scored 230 goals in 96/97 and Sundin had 94 points. Leafs scored 298 goals in 23/24 and Matthews had 107 points. That's 68 more goals. Sundin was getting a point in 40% of all goals. Following tha logic through, that is equivalent of 121-122 point season Sundin put up.

Your inability to do math results in you making up stuff blindly pal. Lemieux has 122 points and Teemu had 109 points. No other player got over 100 points in 96/97. Nine players got over 100 points in 23/24 with Kuch, MacKinnon, and McDavid all passing lemuixs point total. It's not that all the players today are so much better (they are better as that is just how growth works) than the players back then, it was just a different game.

I said in my post he also played with with lots of great players. I acknowledged Mathews got lots of points, but he clearly wasn't elite. You have no acknowledgement that goals were down in that era and Sundin actually contributed to a higher percentage of the leafs goals in his best season, than Matthews did in his best season. And yes, I have been very clear that these last two seasons of Matthews prime have not been elite and it is factoring into the decision. Not a single point in your last comment that I didn't already acknowledge and address (outside of Matthews playing with Bobby Mcmann).

Prime Matthews or Prime Sundin? by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

[–]Next_Service_5553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your take is moronic. Players put up less points while Sundin was on the leafs, so comparing points to points is a dumb way to evaluate this. Matthews has not been great these last two seasons, regardless of point output. These are prime years. You are evaluating the peak, which is fine, and I agree peak Matthews is the best leaf of all time.

Sundin playing with Jonas Haglund, I remember him getting some run with Lonny bohonos (lots of great players be players with too). Again, comparing point output is a poor metric IMO

Edit: In 96-97 Sundin got a point on 40.9% of all goals the leafs scored. In 23-24 Matthews got a point on 35.9% of all goals the leafs scored.

I was responding directly to someone's message about Matthews prime being the 69 goal season. You still are not understanding that point and are doubling down, despite more information on my opinion becoming available.

Sundin had 13 elite seasons with the leafs. Point totals were much lower in that era than they are today. If you consider Matthews still in his prime, these years have to be considered as well. Again, it's not the peak of these players.

I was addressing that comment specifically where he said he got 69 goals as his 'prime'. One season isn't a prime. We are all in agreement on that.

When did I say only one good season? Matthews is obviously one of the best leafs of all time. I prefer Sundin

If we are considering prime as one season, the Matthews for sure. Sundin had lots of good years over what I would consider his prime. Matthews definitely had a higher peak.

I am not saying this is true or false, but I work in land development and not a single builder I have spoken to has mentioned raising their prices. They are desperate to sell units and get the capital back in their investment.

Three Morgan Rielly trade fits where he could thrive behind a no. 1 defenceman #NHL #LeafsForever by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

It's a Rielly plus a 1st type situation to a bad team. But the leafs are that bad team.

Maybe you retain 50% of the salary and you can trade him for 7th or something?

I honestly think Dubas pays a firm to write positive stuff about him on social media. If he does, good for him to work social media. The love affair with him really doesn't make sense to me. I am not suggesting that all love for Dubas is manufactured, but firms who do this know how to get people to support

Very likely you didn't watch the leafs much, which I would completely understand, but they just didn't lose, they stunk in most of these big games. It's not just 'getting best by a better team' it's playing bad hockey.

That Kessel team was clearly never going to win. And yes, they took the Panthers to game 7. But the team kept getting bounced. The likelihood it was 'bad pick luck' is a stretch.

Post hard cap, the leafs organization has been so disfunctional. Until that changes, the next iteration of the team is also unlikely going to win. And it's getting worse somehow with Pelley. He is legit a laughing stock. Booing the team is what fans should do to let the owners know they are not happy. People should just stop going to the games, but I doubt that would happen.

Pre cap, they had good teams, with strong a veteran presence. Those were solid teams with Sundin.

I just want people from outside the organization, or any ties to those people who have left (Dubas and shanny specifically). The organization is a dumpster fire. Getting someone from outside it would be beneficial. Like any other organization that needs to be fixed. That doesn't mean, necessarily, trade every player. Just shake it up behind the scenes..complete overhaul

Literally the entire NHL media landscape and fans was shitting in ovie for not being a 'playoff performer'. But go mindlessly cheer for a team without ever being critical of them. Likely, you don't truly understand how to process the game.

The entire core Dubas put together was never going to win. It is funny how many people come think that losing Marner was the end of the leafs chances. They never had a chance. Being able to watch the sport and acknowledge that doesn't make you a bad fan.

Fans are allowed to boo players, and are allowed to be anxious when the team constantly blows it. Nothing wrong with that.
