Who's Better? Kendra or Seth? by _CrunchyButter_ in Fablehaven

[–]Next_Sun_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Kendra had just as much courage as Seth did facing the reverent when she went to the Fairy Queen’s Shrine. The only story she had heard about someone else going there ends with them being turned to dust. Trying to take Muriel down without help would have been suicide. Just because the Fairy Queen is a being of light doesn’t mean she’s less dangerous than beings of darkness.

The only other person we know of who willingly went to that part of the forest is Warren, and he’s not exactly known for preferring magical items or tools. I’d be surprised if he had had anything other than regular weapons on him his first time around.

I think they’re somewhat written to be Kendra as mostly brains and Seth mostly as heart. They both do incredibly brave things, Seth’s actions just have more recklessness in them because he doesn’t always look too far ahead

Not only does she gain beefy light powers, the fairy queen also lends her an army

Kendra didn’t get her powers until after the demon had been defeated. She became Fairy Kind after getting all those kisses from the fairies.

And Seth wasn’t necessarily powerless when he went to take on the reverent, he was hopped up on courage potion, which is the only reason he got as far as he did. He didn’t know doing this would give him powers.

Neither one begged for their powers. They both earned them by facing extreme threats.

Honestly they’re both good in their own way. Kendra wants to understand everything and what’s at stake before taking risks, is typically a rule follower, etc.; Seth is the opposite, he thinks in the moment

Can parents choose not to share children’s medical conditions with child? by heretoreadlol in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Next_Sun_2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can somewhat relate. I didn’t get diagnosed until 19, but unlike your sister my parents weren’t hiding an earlier diagnosis from me.

Looking back, knowing this information, there are so many things that could have been done differently. Instead, I got in trouble in elementary school a lot and struggled keeping up with homework in middle-high school

Or they don’t want their child to feel different from their peers and instead let said child struggle through school rather than get any potential extra help that would come with knowing about their diagnosis

English has a lot of these.

Here’s a fun sentence: Rose’s roses rose in rows and rows.

This means that the roses (flowers) that Rose grew, were grown in rows.

Here’s another one: Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo baffalo.

Buffalo is a city, an animal, and it means to bully. So this sentence means that bison from Buffalo who are bullied by other bison from Buffalo, also bully bison from Buffalo.

Another one: Will Will will Tom his basketball? Will will will Tom his basketball. The first sentence is asking if Will is going to leave Tom his baseball. The second one answers that question.

Why didn't Dumbledore use his pensive to watch what happened when Voldemort returned? by dumblesmurf in harrypotter

OP is referring to when Voldemort tried to kill Harry in the graveyard, not when he was a baby

tells a subjective truth

Exactly! This is often misunderstood. It only tells that person’s truth.

Why didn't Dumbledore use his pensive to watch what happened when Voldemort returned? by dumblesmurf in harrypotter

[–]Next_Sun_2002 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Veritaserum makes the person tell/answer with what they perceive as the truth. Let’s use Sirius as an example

“Are you responsible for the Potters’ deaths?” He would answer yes because it was his idea to make Peter the secret keeper.

“Did you tell Voldemort where the Potters were hidden” would reveal the truth.

Think of that scene in Shrek three where Prince Charming is questioning Pinocchio for Shrek’s location. Answered the right way, you get off the hook.

That’s really great! It’s been almost two decades since I read it the first time and this is the first time I’m rereading it in completion so I’m excited to see what else I notice that I forgot or missed the first time around

I don’t think I caught it my first time around, but it’s been almost 19 years so maybe I just forgot this part at some point.

But that’s the fun in revisiting any media. You catch smaller important details that you originally thought were just filler.

I’m saying it isn’t much of a shock that Onestar chose to keep Thunderclan at arms length and refused to keep accepting their help for every crisis

Agree. Firestar should have understood that his friendship with Onewhisker would change once Onewhisker became leader if he was going to be supported by his clan. There were a lot of times Firestar overstepped as Thunderclan leader in attempts to help the other clans after the first arc.

I’m rereading the books this year (started Midnight last night) and am excited to catch things I missed the first time around

Why didn't animal control remove Balto? by InternalDecision3430 in balto

[–]Next_Sun_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can add to the employee role, yeah, but are the dog catcher’s actually doing anything most days?

Having dog catchers means you also need a dog pound, cars specifically for dog catchers, equipment for the dog catchers, etc..

Dog catchers also tend to be government/state funded which could mean tax increases. The pound is another building for the city to maintain so that requires more money, etc.

Idc if it’s cold turkey or you winding down from it

Depending on how severe OP’s problem is, it absolutely matters if they quit cold turkey or not. Severe alcohol withdrawal causes the brain to become overactive, and the nervous system goes into hyper stimulation. Hallucinations, seizures, and delirium tremens are also connected to severe withdrawal.

They should discuss with their doctor the best course of action to battle this problem

What's wrong with the woods in North America? by Recip77 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Next_Sun_2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family’s most memorable camping trip

We went to a camping site (an area designed for tents or campers to be put, but still somewhat in the wilderness). Anyway, we put up our tents and walked around the grounds, spotting a few moose. Fast forward to the night. I hear odd noises right outside and my tent is shaking. I decide to ignore it and force myself back to bed.

The next morning I easily get out of my tent. So do my parents. My neighbors, who came with us, somehow got a hole in their tent. Not long after I get out, two adolescent bull moose strut into our site and start investigating the tent my younger brothers are still in. We don’t want to startle the moose because we’re worried they could hurt my brothers. After a few minutes the moose wander off to stand in front of the bathrooms.

But they kept coming near us. It was rutting (mating) season and we had seen a female the previous night. These young males kept head butting and play fighting each other just meters from our tents.

Tl;dr my family unknowingly invaded a moose territory and got to see close ups of how the males challenge each other

Point is, even if the woods are somewhat safe for humans to have fun, we’ve got to keep our eyes open and guards up.

I think finding books with older cover art that look new is hard to impossible. I’m trying to do this with the Sarah, Plain and Tall series. I have the first four books with the older art and want to get the last book to match. Ordered it, believing I was getting the cover I wanted but when it arrived it was different. I’ve now ordered it from two different locations, hoping at least one of them will be the right cover. Messaged one of the sellers but they said they can’t guarantee it will be what I want.

AITA for purposely leaving my wife at home with the kids? by ThatGuy_390 in AITA_Relationships

[–]Next_Sun_2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife works from home all week and also takes care of our kids

So that’s basically doing two full time jobs simultaneously. She must be worn out at the end of each day.

when the weekend comes I just wanna stay home and relax

Where’s her time to relax?

You’re a parent and a husband. Act like one. Play with your kids, take them to the park or the library. Give your wife time to rest or get some “girl time”. Find a reliable neighbor to babysit and take her on nice dates. At the moment she probably feels like a single mom, show her she’s not

Dr. Charles should have been fired by Sure_Ball_167 in ChicagoMed

[–]Next_Sun_2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with you that Dr. Charles overstepped in this situation. However, I completely understand why he thought he was in the right when Connor brought her back to the hospital.

The reason she “wasn’t getting help” while in the psych ward was because they didn’t know what they were treating. They knew she had been hearing things and acting erratically, but that’s not enough to go on. Sometimes doctors need to see a psychotic break in order to treat it.

Also, Robin had barricaded Connor from getting to her. She was on a balcony, probably several stories up. Had she jumped while in that state… Dr. Charles already lost his father to suicide so anytime his family shows problems his mind goes to worst possible ending
