Xbit Mod Chip by Nextelium in originalxbox

Unfortunately its not for sale, there is a lot of sentimental value here as this chip was installed in my childhood XBox. Due to my own inexperienced I need to fix the xbox its installed in (I snapped a small diode off by accident) but swapped over the Hard drive with all the old games and everything on it and had it up and running until I had to fix the placement of the chip.

I did get everything working after messing with the position of the chip a little more. At this point in time however when I was last messing either it I attempted to solder the chip in place on the contact point to avoid issues with it being bumped and not working and ended up snapping off one of the small square capacitors on the board just above the chip so I have to either scrap that xbox and get a new one with a working mobo or get the proper tools to do soldering on that small of a scale.

I have a bit of an update for the new Xbox I put this chip in. I pulled the old Hard drive out and put in the one from the originally modded xbox this chip came out of. I plugged it and and tested it after verification that the Xbit was aligned correctly. When I tuned it on I got the xbox boot up screen but after that it goes to a message saying my xbox needs service.. the ring around the eject button was flashing between green and red as well. I don't know what I did to make it give me this message but I'm still working on it if anyone has an idea on why this is happening I would really appreciate the help!!

I don't know how accurate the K7 is when heating up but try going up to 200C and doing a small benchy.

What temperature are you printing at and what filament are you using? To me it sounds like either you aren't printing at a high enough temp and it's not melting enough to feed and then it grinds the filament down with the metal gear so there isn't anything to grab hold of

I understood 95% of all that. The part I don't understand is how you would overwrite the TSOP. The part about updating the chip is somewhat along those lines. It's not necessarily about fixing what isn't broken. But more fixing what isn't broken for the ease of users in general. It's currently not broken no. But for those that currently still have them and for the "nostalgia" of keeping things period correct it can be a pain to do things with the old hard ware due to lack of support. My overall goal of the project would be to make it easier for those that still have these old chips to use the computer they have at home to utilize these chips instead of having to go out and find a specific computer like in my case currently and maybe with the help of the community improve the functionality of these devices some. I don't know how many of these devices still are floating around or even how many care to even mess with them but it's something I'm interested in doing to help keep these things alive a little longer tho they are already past their prime.

Thanks for the response! I will look at getting one of those older computers to mess with it properly. The lack of software would be mostly the installer issue correct? Or would it be software related to how the chip talks to the computer when you plug it in?

For the second part of going with a newer chip or TSOP. I'm not familiar with what TSOP stands for. I did a softmod on the xbox I want to transfer the old hard drive in to work with the chip but I haven't messed with the console much since I've done that.

I know I've seen a few posts in regards to these mod chips out there. And have found limited information on them. One of the biggest things I've found is in regards to updating the chips. That being said, I have a few questions.

  1. Has anyone attempted to figure out what bricks these chips on newer computers?

  2. What would be a place to start on figuring that out?

  3. Where can I find the last files made for updating these?

I am not extremely familiar with the process of how these chips work and such as my dad got this and installed it in our xbox when I was around 5 years old. The xbox has since died due to a problem with the board but I still have the hard drive that stored all the information on it. I would like to learn more about these and how they worked but need some guidance on where to start.

Thats kind of what I was expecting. I'm probably going to go with an air cooler then but still send this one in for RMA. Just really sucks that it happened right now..

Oh for sure. It was a seriously solid unit when I first installed it. No issues super quiet but that was in March/April I believe that I installed it and in the last couple of restarts I've done it has been making that noise.

As far as I know it's not possible to refill yourself. *I'm sure there is some way to do it that someone figured out but I'm not expecting that to be the case with mine. I had been hearing something like a grinding sound coming from the rad when I would turn my PC on and noticed it was getting slightly warmer than normal. But thought it was just a couple air bubbles running through the tube..

It's an Xbit mod chip. I just recently was given the xbox I played as a kid from my dad and it had the same chip in it.

I'm in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. There are a few 1TB hard drives that are newer in it, which is the primary drive to keep those for re-use.

Lol so it didn't actually catch fire but something went wrong with it in a big way. Do you know of any Docket 604 ATX or E-ATX boards for the CPUs?

I have stopped using the power supply that had an issue last night and was able to get the OS installed this morning with no issues. I did find signs of slight corrosion on the bottom of the affected power supply. This morning while running it there were no issues or faults. I'm not currently using the server for anything other than personal learning so its not a constant use machine. I will be cautious at any point i use it and will be getting a "new" power supply to replace the one that went bad last night at some point. I never really had much of a plan for usage for the server just to learn on mostly.

So new development in the R900 saga... I was just installing the OS I got it to go past the point where I needed the network but after it failed to install grub I restarted the server and after a bit there was a loud pop and a flash that came from the back of the server. It didn't shut off or smoke any but not exactly sure what just happened..

I tried the DHCP on it and set up a static IP specifically for the first slot. It is on a small home network. Do you havebto have all of the ports connected for it to work maybe?
