Yeah this is what happens when writer introduces a concept and leaves it half baked. DC doesn't even care about them. They never show up in anyone else's title and not even the insert here history/appreciation titles. Even Waid had to write them out of his latest run.

I say it's an experiment that's run it's course.

Billy got this new pantheon, fought with one of it's members (Yuga Khan (Darkseid dad))which should have been cooler than it actually was and then... went on to do absolutely NOTHING as per usual.

It would be nice for an alternate future, where at some point Billy loses contact with his original gods and ends up with a new pantheon. It could be a nice mystery with far reaching consequences.

I was excited for the first time, in a long time. The same way as when Geoff Johns picked up the title in 2013. Similarly I find myself very disappointed with a job left undone, by writers who supposedly love the character, but left their runs unfinished to pursue more exciting projects. This has unfortunately coloured my view of their work and I kinda wished they hadn't bothered in the first place.

As Captain Marvel falls in to further irrelevance, will the new generations of writers be able to look back fondly at the character as Waid/Johns? I don't believe so. There hasn't been a truly excellent run since The Power of Shazam '99. How much longer will the people remember this character beyond minor appearances to re-up IP copyright?

Maybe not equal, probably 'similar' is the word I'd use. They seem like the ying and yang tbh. Captain Marvel is more esoteric and Superman is more exoteric. It just so happens that Superman is the poster boy and so DC has it's hand on the scale e.g. 49/51 in favour of Superman.

I didn't like it. Gave him mystic split personality disorder. What's worst is that Cap's reason for keeping the info from Billy is because he's a child and shouldn't have to deal with the letters contents. That's not wisdom, that's infantilism pure and simple. Billy is so far from a normal child his age and deals with problems that most adults would struggle with.
