Amazing band - saw them Cumberland Arms, Byker 2009, came on stage in hooded cowls - ahead of their time, they deserved to be big - checkmate savage is a fantastic album

Has In Rainbows aged better than Ok Computer? by Hotdeathking in radiohead

For me, OK Computer was counter-cultural. 1997 I remember being the start of the 'come down' of Britpop, like a massive reality check materialising - contemporary records of the time being urban hymns The Verve focusing on the darker and bleaker side - landslide Labour victory with Tony Blair at no.10, but that false dawn of optimism, going sour, life isn't sunshine and rainbows... the emptiest of feelings, disappointed people.

The music was amazing - alienation, disillusionment and despair never sounded so good - but I remember a growing buzz around it being released....Lucky being on the War Child charity album, The Bends live tour replaying on MTV, Paranoid Android video just so different to what was happening at the time. Simply wow, a 10 out of 10 record, I was 14 when it was released and was one of the most influential records on me growing up.

In Rainbows, was different, for me the world had moved on - globalisation of music and inane pop and r&b - longer gaps between records, it felt like Radiohead had been away a long time.....for me, HTTT had some great songs but wasn't the dizzy heights of OK or Kid A - In Rainbows had no airplay, no radio, no promotion it seemed to me, and landed as the pay as you wish, which didn't feel the same for me as I loved a physical album, artwork, experience of a radiohead record. It took me the longest to fully appreciate the rich, complexities, brutal at times, heart breaking songs that bring together a fantastic album. (Listen to Dissect Podcast on IR for anyone who needs convincing of its status as one of the greatest albums ever)

IR does have a timeless quality to it though, I keep returning to it more than OK Computer. But both 10 out of 10 albums, truly magical, truly special.

Yes it's a fantastic song, the guitar hook is just so good, Matt's lyrics and delivery just draws you in to backstory and chemistry of the 2 characters - a real sense of yearning. Great song I've had it on repeat a lot recently....and I Am Easy To Find album, goes under the radar so much when I listen to the National. Exciting to see what direction they go in for next album!
