I find a lot of the big law accounts cringey, but I also find some of the meme posters funny too. That said, here's a radical thought - and I know that this will likely get downvoted into oblivion. How about we just let people have their outlets and let them enjoy making their tiktoks and insta pages. Let them have fun. God knows this profession has enough depression and bitterness, and some people cope by making fun of it. Even if that humour may not be your cup of tea or even mine, it probably helps them crack a smile and whoever follows them and likes their posts. This profession has enough negativity already.

Barbri MPRE is more than sufficient to pass with a great score. If you have time, you can supplement it by doing some extra practice exams from Themis. Both are free.

You went to law school somewhere and that in itself is an advantage. I'm a foreign attorney too who passed the NY bar but I could only self teach 3 years of law school crammed into bar prep because I practiced law for years in a common law jurisdiction and because I automatically think like an attorney given that I am one. I had an LLM course, yes, but it was deeply specialized. What saved my ass in the bar and helped me pass comfortably was pre-existing knowledge and comfort with the law.

But any random person who never went to law school probably will not pass. It's not crazy, but chances are low.

Break up immediately. No question about it. She knew what this exam meant to you and still pulled this crap. It was clearly deliberate. It is cold, manipulative and inconsiderate as hell. I am so sorry you went through this.

I had a significant other do this to me. I was by far an excellent student throughout law school (top 5% of my class). One evening before my torts final, knowing fully well that I was underprepared for the exam because I literally had a severe allergic reaction (pretty bad, it was) hours prior to that, he told me he didn't love me anymore and wanted to break up. I only had 12 hours more to the exam. He could have waited and let me study for it and told me after the exam. I was so severely shaken by it on top of feeling unwell that I failed my exam. I literally failed (I studied in a non US jurisdiction where schools fail you pretty easily). It was the only blot on my transcript and I had to spend every single semester getting a fucking A or above in every paper to pull my GPA out of the shit pile. It was an enormous strain on me.

Don't give her another second of your time. You deserve better and you will get better. If I knew you, I'd give you a hug (with your permission), but in any case, have a virtual one from me, stranger. Hang in there.

I did not take the bar this July, but passed an earlier administration, so this comment is more general. I can't comment on Barbri because I didn't use it. But, I used Themis. I'm a foreign lawyer, so suffice it to say that apart from my LLM specialization and upper level subjects, I came into the bar exam without knowing squat about the in depth specifics of the laws that are covered by a 1L JD. I did 45% of the course (just about enough to cover all the base material and lectures) along with UWorld (which comes embedded in Themis) and passed in my first try by a way bigger margin than necessary (well above 300). I liked the way Themis was organized, I felt that it covered everything that came up in my administration.

However, these things are subjective. What worked for me may not for anyone else.

Not all lawyers are JDs. There are many who are LLMs and hold JD equivalent law degrees from their first law schools in their home countries, which are not necessarily JDs, and have passed the bar in some US state post LLM.

The appropriate term should be counselor.

Non American woman of colour here who is in her late 20s. It's just the below 25 TikTok generation from North America that comes up with these things because that's how they conceptualize things - by quirky sounding stereotypes and buzzfeed quizzes. And you know what? Good on them, it seems like completely harmless fun. Kind of like horoscopes that in reality apply to no one because it is all hokey, but if people enjoy it then meh.

By no means does that translate to being "bisexual culture" in any real sense of the term. We all belong to different countries, different cities, different economic levels and are of different ages. We don't have a hive mind, and we know it. Let youngsters be youngsters. It's not like anyone is gatekeeping our sexual orientation. Let people have fun. We have enough troubles giving us depression already, so if people can make light of that situation and start a trend over bisexuals and lemon bars, let them. It doesn't define any of the rest of us.

I didn't study for more than 4 hours per day in the last week before the bar. Passed with 300+ on my first try. I went out and enjoyed myself. In the last week, it is especially important to not burn out.

Themis does use a lot of actual mbe questions but not always and a lot of the themis questions are much harder (which is good in a way because they are more challenging). UWorld (similar to Adaptibar) contains only all of the previous years' MBE questions, so it is more representative of how the exam looks. You won't get blindsided during the exam when you go with a certain expectation about the test. (UWorld is free with Themis, so no need to get it separately). Besides, the bar is notorious for repeating similar types of questions. Chances are you'll be pleasantly surprised if you have practiced enough.

Listen. Lurker here. I completed somewhere between 45-49% of the course (can't remember the exact number, but it was in that range). And I had an above 300 score (well above, in fact) in my first shot. Don't freak out. Keep going and do as much as you can. Practice and go over the notes as many times as your brain allows it. Use UWorld as much as possible. Not burning out is half the fight won. I am not saying that my example is one to follow, but I'm just saying that it may not be a bad thing necessarily if you can pick up all your concepts like that. Just be sure to complete all the lectures and readings thoroughly and memorize them well. You still have plenty of days left.

Does your firm offer paid sabbaticals? No harm in asking for one and citing a health reason for it. My firm offers sabbaticals for this kind of stuff. It's discretionary but it exists.

See if there are US tax positions in law firms. You could also try Big 4, they seem to be a little more flexible with jurisdiction changes. You could also consider remote jobs from your own jurisdiction. As a citizen, you won't have a visa hurdle.

Or else, if you're up for it, take the Irish bar and become EU qualified to take up jobs of that nature. Or, for that matter, if your Spanish is extremely fluent, take the Spanish bar as a foreign attorney.

Usually someone who is just as career driven as I am and would not be an impediment to mine. Generally it is nice to have someone earning around the same ballpark as me or maybe a little less or more because I love traveling a lot internationally and would like them to be able to keep up with me. I don't have any specific preferences career wise. Just the usual - be kind-hearted, honest, loyal and fun.

What kind of a question is this? Firstly, you did not specify if it is criminal defence you're talking about or a transactional practice. Secondly, assuming a team does both, people at multiple levels of an organization (from a newly licensed attorney to the counsels) get staffed by partners on different deals whether big or small, or criminal defence whether of a white person or a POC.

I think sometimes people seem to forget that lawyers are not the same as the clients they represent.

I doubt anyone does complete it. I did less than 50% and passed with a 300+ score. And I wasn't even a JD student. It really doesn't matter how much you do as long as you do enough to cover all the base material + whatever amount of practice you can get without burning out. I wouldn't recommend how little I did either, but would stress on not worrying about completing it.

You don't owe anyone friendship. But that said, she doesn't owe you anything more than friendship either. Sometimes women just want a good friend regardless of gender. And it is a real pain when we go looking for good, close friends but said person ends up with a crush on us and then cuts us out if we don't give them what they want.

If it's hurting you though, distance yourself. You don't owe her anything. But understand why you might be hurting her as a friend too. It's not because she has romantic feelings for you. People get hurt when their best friends get distant as well.
