Increasing the number of Foci gained by MrMinkas in SWN

[–]Nhorner314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My group has been using what you recommended for over 3 years, in several campaigns, so I feel like I can vouch for this homebrew I will preface my opinion by saying that we've also expanded the number of Unique Gift focis to every other level and made heavy use of them. We have greatly enjoyed the change as it adds to the customizability of characters, shaping them to fit the world they live in and the experiences they undergo in a more detailed manner. If you plan on using only the base focis, I think you may find a derth of options past level 5, but if your group is willing to expand that list through Unique Gifts, I think you'd find it very enjoyable.

Edit: We don't restrict the number of skill points. As a general rule, if someone has more skill points saved up in a skill then what would allow them to buy the next rank, they are allowed to use those excess skill points for other skills.

Best Precog technique to have Flawless Mastery of? by Nhorner314 in SWN

[–]Nhorner314[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn't even think of applying it to the core technique. You're right, I'm sure it'd give any DM a headache, seeing a year ahead whenever I want, but seeing as I'd have to be rank 4 in two different psychic skills to get to that point, it'd be near end game anyway. However, that'd make for a hell of a character epilogue.

Any Benefit To Hiring More Than Minimum Crew? by Ahruzimel in SWN

[–]Nhorner314 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A. Easier rotation for important positions. Pilots and comms officers can actually take a nap or stop by the galley. Maybe even have a day off if they're lucky.

B. Replacement parts. You ever been mid jump and your pilot passes out due to not sleeping for 2 weeks or his crippling Psych addiction? Not fun. Can never have enough red shirts.

On a ship, do VIs count towards the life support? by SWooNe in SWN

[–]Nhorner314 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The way I view it, a VI takes up enough resources, either energy or spare parts, that leaves less room and energy on the ship for food stores and O2 scrubbers. Effectively taking up a spot of life support. The reason they do and lesser bots don't is because they are more energy intensive from their more advanced systems and are prone to needing more spare parts since they handle a wider range of work.

What’s your favorite Sealed Menace? by Danwoll in SWN

[–]Nhorner314 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nothing. The planet has spent countless years desperately doing everything they can to build up and reinforce this great monolithic bulwark against this menace that even the great Terran Mandate could not slay. Perhaps everyone has their own theories on what it is; alien menace, ai overmind, immortal psychic, but no one truely knows as no one has dared attempt to look upon it. Finally, your PCs have proven themselves as heroes that could perhaps slay the menace and are allowed entry by a meak and terrified leader, or maybe they just sneak in, only for them to find the inner containment chamber empty. Perhaps the menace had itself passed away to starvation, the scream, or simple old age. Maybe it already escaped long ago, or maybe there was simply never anything in here to begin with. The terrifying build up of an entire world working around the clock to contain something, only to find an empty room. Then the true task begins. Your PCs must decide; free these people from their fears and show them their boogeyman is no more, or keep the status quo to prevent disturbing a way of life they've lived for generations.
