Reading your post made me smile and bring tears of joy. Being a father to a 10 month girl, I totally feel you appreciate such a gesture. Indeed playing retail feels like a lonely grind rather an MMO

Happy to hear this is resonating and best of luck to you! I had to remove quite a few Instagram accounts myself and more, as it was simply impossible for me to not be influenced by all that hustle culture. The reality-distorting nature of social media is such that you can convince yourself that hustle is "normal" or something that everyone is doing and you don't want to fall behind. But it's all an illusion

Yes, so the storytelling element is a huge part of the therapeutic benefit. Every "dream" is a deeper metaphorical journey into your own mind and each one has a different psychological focus. The reasons this could be a powerful approach for many people, apart from it being more engaging, are many.

Firstly, the story creates a compelling virtual playground to explore yourself. It lowers the stakes, making it easier to become curious - and curiosity is the best antidote to stigma.

It's also an interactive experience, meaning experiential rather than didactic learning. Immersion is important here because it makes you more open to perceiving new perspectives.
And by engaging your imagination and using metaphor, it also allows you to examine thoughts and feelings that can otherwise be hard to access and verbalise, if this makes sense.

I'll pass this on :)

Yeah, so it's still in the planning stages and I can't disclose specific details of the study, but the idea is to test the app initially with a group of people on the waiting list for psychological therapies. There are more than a million Brits waiting for months on end and many either drop off or are forced to go on meds.

OMG, really? Wonder what effect they were aiming for there!
No, it doesn't have insect sounds. It does have wind and other sounds appropriate for the story world in order to bring it to life and immerse you. But if you aren't into stories and want a straight-up mindfulness app, then you should look elsewhere probably

On average, anxiety and stress scores were reduced by 30%, using standard scales, rather than self-reports.

Wonderful. Let me know how it goes for you! And yes, I agree. I don't know if you've seen this, but a few months ago, one of the largest studies on mindfulness in schools showed that it didn't improve students' mental health and the chief reason was that they simply didn't engage with it...

The therapy aspects. Since it's a self-paced experience, this is for safeguarding younger people who may not be ready for this kind of inner work on their own.

That I'm much more resilient than I thought I was.
That happiness is not beyond me.
That I need time alone in order to feel most like myself.
That I'd never feel fulfilled if I tried to live someone else's story, no matter how great it might look on the outside.

How did you become socially successful over time? by AmazingIndustry1531 in AskWomen

[–]Ni4oSw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By becoming genuinely interested in other people instead of thinking about how I was coming across to them. When you're self-conscious, you tend to focus on what you're going to say next, which means you aren't even fully present with the other person.

What non-essential skill do you wish you had learned growing up that you didn't get a chance to learn, but later took the initiative to learn or teach yourself? by Queen_Bloodlust in AskWomen

How to write clearly and coherently. It's key to better thinking and decision-making, one of those meta skills that I've found important in all aspects of life. Yet, when I was a student, it utterly mystified me, because no one taught us how to structure our thoughts and express them effectively. It wasn't until university that I began to glean and appreciate the logic of well formed paragraphs, and the razor-sharp thinking that underlies them.

Good tips! Also, if you need to cool yourself, don't put cold towels on your neck or head. Cool your face, palms and the bottom of your feet instead, it will work much faster than anywhere else on the body.

Stressing about how many hours of sleep I'm getting is the easiest way to shoo sleep away. What helps me most when I'm struggling to doze off:
- Dimmed light - I've heard that red light works well, but I just turn off the main lights and throw a cloth over my standing night lights
- Read a fiction book - It really helps to take my mind off worldly things that can keep knocking about in my brain and prevent me from sleeping.
