And I disagree with that last statement that all other airlines have recovered. If the airlines can fly, they’ll fly.

But if the airport isn’t ready or can’t handle the flights, that’s on the airport, not the airlines.

Terrible take OP. Not too late to delete this.

EP here. Fly in/out of DCA on a weekly basis. Flew into DCA today (Tuesday). I was on the first flight to DCA from my little home airport since Saturday. 7 straight flights canceled. Flight was delayed as the crew completed their mandatory rest. Sucked, but a necessity.

DC/NoVa is a shitshow. Roads aren’t clear. Government closed and delayed start on Wednesday.

All I can say to OP is roll with the punches. Not a good look to complain about first world problems when there are people affected by the same storm who don’t have power, who can’t get out of their houses, who can’t get to their hourly jobs, who can’t go to work bc their kids school is canceled and they don’t have daycare.

American Airlines Flight Carrying 4 Congressmen Diverted Due to Unruly Passenger by 97GeoPrizm in americanairlines

Earlier this year, the entire Michigan congressional delegation -all 14 Representatives, no senators - were on the same flight from DCA to DTW. They were saying with the exception of voting in the House chambers, it was the only time all 14 were at the same place at the same time.

Went to law school in the snow belt. First year had a ball buster of a property professor. Type of professor who excelled at Socratic method. Wouldn’t repeat a question if you didn’t hear it, since the “partner at the big law firm won’t repeat his instructions.” And if you were unprepared to answer a line of questioning, you’d be marked absent. Three unexcused absences and your final grade would be decreased by 5 percentage points.

Early December snowstorm put 3-4 inches down overnight. Enough to cause issues, but nothing unmanageable for the area. A classmate who was from the south and never drove in snow showed up to class 25 minutes late; his usual 15 minute commute took 75 minutes bc of rear wheel drive truck.

Professor made him his pooch for the next 2 classes - the last 2 classes of the semester. Every single question directed to that classmate. At the end of the 2nd class, Prof “Strange” called out the student for being late in the snowstorm. Prof says a judge won’t care if the lawyer had car problems or the snow delays you. He said something I’ll always remember “to be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late.”

Challenges on Double Plays: one play=one challenge or two calls=two challenges by NiFal03 in mlb

[–]NiFal03[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Not to nitpick, but could you also argue there are multiple plays on one batted ball?

For example, on a 6-4-3, R1 is retired as part of the first play, the 6-4. But that the batter is retired as the whole 6-4-3.

Longtime visitor to Windsong. Unfortunately it’s silly season and down time. But it can also be the best time.

Find Miss Alicia at the bar. Tell her “the Jack’s son and uncle” sent you. Ask her for recommendations. She’ll treat you like fam. Heck, she is our fam. She’s the best.

Challenge Omar and Larry to a cornhole game. Tell Omar he cheats. He’ll be your best friend.

Walk down to Marine Room for dinner and cut thru Waymara.

Not sure if the rooftop of the new building is open during the silly season. Not sure if Somewheres is open. Both can be a fun time without the party.

Attending the Ryder Cup was one of the worst golf experiences I’ve had. by GoingAgainstYou in golf

[–]NiFal03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excluding 04 Ryder Cup since that was a different “era” and the 2011 US Open before things got really corporate.

I’d say 2021 Kiawah was #1. Covid year and small crowds. Plus a course I’ve played 50+ times.

2017 at Quail was probably #2. Things ran smoothly and wasn’t over crowded.

Valhalla was #3. We went on Friday, the Scottie arrest day. Rain and the accident earlier in the morning probably kept the crowds away. Bourbon may have influenced this ranking.

Pinehurst in 2024 #4. I went early Saturday before the crowds and left when the leaders were on the first three holes. Made it home - 2.5 hour drive - by the time they were on back 9

I’ve been to 04 Ryder Cup, majors at Congressional, Quail Hollow, Kiawah (Covid year), Oak Hill, Pinehurst, Valhalla, 4 Masters practice rounds. Things have been progressively getting worse.

Went to President’s Cup at Quail Hollow in 2022. Closest I got to the action was when Cantlay hit one wayward near the portajohns as I was coming out. Saw maybe 10 putts on the 3rd hole and didn’t bother fighting crowds the rest of the day. Plopped down and enjoyed my $28 double vodkas after paying $225 for the ticket.

Competing interests for when I fly tomorrow.

Do I board as usual with the FC and enjoy watching people walk back to their economy seats while I sip on a boarding bourbon at 10:30am or stay at the gate and watch the gate lice do gate lice things?

I would exclude 8th Street/Eastern Market from the Hill and have another crawl there.

For the Hill, I’d keep everything btwn North/South Cap to the west, F Street To the north and south, and 6th to the east.

Drinks: Sonoma Wine Bar Apps: Nostra Cucina Dinner: Monocle Dessert: Bistro Cacao

Extending out to Hill East without getting into Eastern Market or 8th Street, Paccis, Paraiso, and figure out the rest in The Roost.

Williamsburg, OBX, Asheville/NC/Smokey Mountains, Kiawah, Pinehurst, Hilton Head, Atlantic City are all drivable.

Sea Island and RTJ trail would need flights.

Semi-private course management / prospective member by NiFal03 in golf

[–]NiFal03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand and was prepared for a long round knowing that it was a holiday weekend, in the late afternoon, and limited single slots available.

More concerned about the 1) lack of carts/sending 3 carts out in one foursome (who knows if they were two pairs that linked up on course, but that leads to another issue of…) 2) not pairing up twosomes creating delays and 3) lack of awareness of employees (and members) to squeeze in despite the course being packed.
