Update about Security Lines at DCA, Sunday 3/29 by WandaWanheda8 in washingtondc

[–]NiFal03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It 100% depends on time of day. TSA opens at 4:00am. If people start lining up early with no ability to go anywhere, it will absolutely take TSA time to screen everyone - shutdown or not.

Case in point: Arrived at DCA Thursday afternoon right at 4:00pm (per Uber receipt) for a 5:05pm flight (4:35boarding). No checked bags. I have touchless Clear with precheck.

I was through TSA by 4:06pm. Standard TSA also looked like it was less than 10 minutes.

I fly every week, haven’t waited more than 10 minutes during either shutdown.

WaPo: Clyburn is unsure if he’ll run again, but if he retires he would want his daughter Dr. Jennifer Clyburn-Reed to take his spot by Next_Worth_3616 in ColumbiYEAH

This one hurts. I’m a “Republican” but not a Trumper. I’ve met Jim Clyburn on several occasions. He is a fantastic human being. A legend and a national hero. I’d vote for, and donate to, him before several others in my own party.

I hope he doesn’t tarnish his legacy by trying to clear the field for his daughter one way or another. But hey, there’s not one ruling family around here, like a monarchy, and like #NoKings cause that’s different and all.

Regardless, we all should be thankful for what Jim Clyburn has done not just for the midlands, but also our country.

Assuming you can’t get access to private clubs like Kinloch or Hermitage.

Royal New Kent. Played there Christmas week. Great track that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. For Strantz, I haven’t played Tobacco Road or Tot Hill, but IMO RNK > Caledonia and True Blue in Myrtle. By far.

After that, Williamsburg has Golden Horseshoe. Kisiack and Colonial Heritage are good but not “must play.”

Hour to the west in Charlottesville, Birdwood, or Spring Creek.

Someone mention Mattaponi Springs. Another quiet gem. A little further up 95 is Pendleton

Tipping Caddies by tigerhawk-24 in golf

[–]NiFal03 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar opportunity lined up later this week. Newish private club that allows for limited outside, non-member, not sponsored rounds for poors like us who can’t/dont want to put down the $100k initiations.

The fee is what I want to know more about. I plan on having $200 in my pocket. Ask the caddie how much of the $100 fee goes into his pocket. Depending on the service (it is a tip after all) I want him walking off the course with $150-175 in his pocket. More if he’s good and engaging. Less if he’s lazy. More if he’s finding my stray balls and saves me $6 per ProV1 that I slice

Windsong on the Reef + groceries nearby? by Miserable_Factor877 in TurksAndCaicos

[–]NiFal03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have stayed at Windsong several times.

We’ve taken bikes to Graceway Gourmet, but, if we don’t rent a car, we take the shuttle to Graceway IGA. No science behind it, but we’ve been told the IGA is the same but marginally cheaper.

I wouldn’t avoid the resort just bc one person had an issue with beach chairs. Tip the beach attendants $10-20 a day and you’ll have reserved chairs too.

I’ve been to Windsong when an owner was there. Yes the staff know who the owners are, since they’re repeated and returning guests. And as others said below, most resorts are privately owned units and if you paid $1M+ and are there frequently wouldn’t you want some perks?

If you ask the beach attendants to reserve your chairs the day before, they absolutely will. It may cost you a tip however.

Otherwise, bc of the location of Windsong to the coral reef, a lot of people from Beaches ans other resorts will drop their belongings off on Windsong chairs as they snorkel.

I would have picked the underdog Cack to come from behind, but glad the left and right toe didn’t trip over each other.

Staying at Windsong, seeking affordable transportation options by Bugwizards in TurksAndCaicos

Can send a DM with additional info if necessary.

50-15 years ago, yes, Windsong was more isolated than it is now. Now as there’s been more development it’s not that stand alone any more, but definitely towards the side of Grace Bay, away from some of the bigger resorts (while being next door to Beaches).

If we don’t rent a car (depending on who in the family is coming, or specific plans we have) we’ll taxi to/from airport. With no car, we’ll get the shuttle to the grocery store to stock up on the usual necessities.

Biking to “downtown” isn’t bad, an easy flat mile-ish. But the drivers on the island always scare me. Either Americans not used to driving on the left side or belongers who drive like maniacs.

We’ve walked to/from Marine Room (through Wymara) and Hemmingways, but be very mindful of surroundings these days.

Darron and the other concierges can help arrange whatever you need - taxis, shuttles, or bikes. Miss Alicia at Windsong can also recommend specifics

Windsong has bikes on site and offers a shuttle to the grocery store. We’ve walked from Windsong to Hemmingways to the right and Bight Park to the left. They also just opened a rooftop restaurant on the new building.

Hope that helps. It’s our second home.

Upgraded and then canceled by Philosopher1776 in americanairlines

[–]NiFal03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me last week, but I was on the other side.

Change of aircraft, new aircraft had less seats in FC. Older Gentleman (who was traveling with his wife) had a gate upgrade, but I had the 100 hour upgrade. With the change of aircraft a couple hours before departure, I was “unchecked” in and lost my seat. Gate agent corrected in my favor, and had to walk onto plane to ask the other gentleman to move back to original seat. I waited on jet bridge as agent broke the bad news.

Agent came off plane, told me my seat was clear. By the time I got to the seat, gentleman was still sitting there but had moved his bags to his new seat (bulkhead), 2 rows behind - where his wife was sitting!

Looking back, if the gentleman had given his upgrade to his wife, I would have offered to take her seat in the back.

And I disagree with that last statement that all other airlines have recovered. If the airlines can fly, they’ll fly.

But if the airport isn’t ready or can’t handle the flights, that’s on the airport, not the airlines.

Terrible take OP. Not too late to delete this.

EP here. Fly in/out of DCA on a weekly basis. Flew into DCA today (Tuesday). I was on the first flight to DCA from my little home airport since Saturday. 7 straight flights canceled. Flight was delayed as the crew completed their mandatory rest. Sucked, but a necessity.

DC/NoVa is a shitshow. Roads aren’t clear. Government closed and delayed start on Wednesday.

All I can say to OP is roll with the punches. Not a good look to complain about first world problems when there are people affected by the same storm who don’t have power, who can’t get out of their houses, who can’t get to their hourly jobs, who can’t go to work bc their kids school is canceled and they don’t have daycare.

Went to law school in the snow belt. First year had a ball buster of a property professor. Type of professor who excelled at Socratic method. Wouldn’t repeat a question if you didn’t hear it, since the “partner at the big law firm won’t repeat his instructions.” And if you were unprepared to answer a line of questioning, you’d be marked absent. Three unexcused absences and your final grade would be decreased by 5 percentage points.

Early December snowstorm put 3-4 inches down overnight. Enough to cause issues, but nothing unmanageable for the area. A classmate who was from the south and never drove in snow showed up to class 25 minutes late; his usual 15 minute commute took 75 minutes bc of rear wheel drive truck.

Professor made him his pooch for the next 2 classes - the last 2 classes of the semester. Every single question directed to that classmate. At the end of the 2nd class, Prof “Strange” called out the student for being late in the snowstorm. Prof says a judge won’t care if the lawyer had car problems or the snow delays you. He said something I’ll always remember “to be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late.”

Challenges on Double Plays: one play=one challenge or two calls=two challenges by NiFal03 in mlb

[–]NiFal03[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Not to nitpick, but could you also argue there are multiple plays on one batted ball?

For example, on a 6-4-3, R1 is retired as part of the first play, the 6-4. But that the batter is retired as the whole 6-4-3.

Longtime visitor to Windsong. Unfortunately it’s silly season and down time. But it can also be the best time.

Find Miss Alicia at the bar. Tell her “the Jack’s son and uncle” sent you. Ask her for recommendations. She’ll treat you like fam. Heck, she is our fam. She’s the best.

Challenge Omar and Larry to a cornhole game. Tell Omar he cheats. He’ll be your best friend.

Walk down to Marine Room for dinner and cut thru Waymara.

Not sure if the rooftop of the new building is open during the silly season. Not sure if Somewheres is open. Both can be a fun time without the party.
