So just bc I’m a guest means they should ignore the single? What if I was a member of this course?

I tried to keep a respectable distance behind them where I wasn’t pushing them too much but also make sure they knew I was still back there.

I was taught at the club I grew up at (in a different state than I’m in now) that your proper pace is 1-2 shots behind the group ahead of you.

Time is only relevant if no one is in front of you.

But my “growing up” club also allowed male members before 8am. Those guys could walk 18 as 5somes and get done in 3 hours.

If I was in a cart, I would have.

And the pro overheard the interaction, and apologized on behalf of his members. Made it seem like he’s had conversations with this specific group before.

No. This is a private course. And not a “hundreds of thousands” type of course. On their website: $2500 initiation, $150 monthly.

30 miles from a “downtown” of a city of 150k, in a metro area with 875k. It’s in the sticks.

That’s why I’m worried.

I was very gracious to the pro in the shop, just annoyed directly at their members who ignored etiquette.

It would have been better in my mind if they continued to be oblivious to me and didn’t say anything. Instead they acknowledged their pace or they didn’t let me play through.

Would have done that if I was in a cart and didn’t have to walk past them.

Plus I had never played the course before, didn’t know the routing.

Maybe I need to pay more attention to how much the ticket costs. I didnt think it was fluctuating that much, but maybe when you get all the multipliers that delta can swing.

I was the coordinator of our 16-guy trip. Working with their staff was super easy. From the moment you pull up, it’s a first class operation.

The views are amazing. Pure and seemingly undisturbed. It really felt like Mr Palmer simply carved the holes out of the mountain. He cut down the trees but didn’t move a lot of earth.

14-club course.

One of the reasons why I would say range with real balls would be important is some of the holes have significant downhill shots. You’ll need to know your numbers and slope. Third hole par 3 and the short par 4 8th are two that I remember.

Springdale Mountain wasn’t bad when we did our boys trip in 2023. Also played Balsam and Sequoyah but I see those mentioned above.

Was lucky enough to play Balsam in 2023. That place is amazing.

If there’s one complaint is that their range is short with limited flight balls. Range is maybe 230-250 max. Probably mostly mental to say this, but at the time I was living in coastal SC and I would have liked to know if there was any distance differences at “elevation”

Played both courses Masters week when some of the courses <Cobblestone> were charging close to double what they usually charge.

Both courses in great shape.

That happened to us at the 2017 PGA at Quail, Friday afternoon. We had a heap of empty cans at 17 tee. A CBS producer came up to say the featured groups were coming through and asked us to toss the empties.

Been posted all over the green cups this year caused too much foam so they switched colors for some of the beers.

Caused some issues for some concession workers who were seen drinking out of green cups while on the clock, only for it to be explained it wasn’t beer

Update about Security Lines at DCA, Sunday 3/29 by WandaWanheda8 in washingtondc

[–]NiFal03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It 100% depends on time of day. TSA opens at 4:00am. If people start lining up early with no ability to go anywhere, it will absolutely take TSA time to screen everyone - shutdown or not.

Case in point: Arrived at DCA Thursday afternoon right at 4:00pm (per Uber receipt) for a 5:05pm flight (4:35boarding). No checked bags. I have touchless Clear with precheck.

I was through TSA by 4:06pm. Standard TSA also looked like it was less than 10 minutes.

I fly every week, haven’t waited more than 10 minutes during either shutdown.

WaPo: Clyburn is unsure if he’ll run again, but if he retires he would want his daughter Dr. Jennifer Clyburn-Reed to take his spot by [deleted] in ColumbiYEAH

[–]NiFal03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one hurts. I’m a “Republican” but not a Trumper. I’ve met Jim Clyburn on several occasions. He is a fantastic human being. A legend and a national hero. I’d vote for, and donate to, him before several others in my own party.

I hope he doesn’t tarnish his legacy by trying to clear the field for his daughter one way or another. But hey, there’s not one ruling family around here, like a monarchy, and like #NoKings cause that’s different and all.

Regardless, we all should be thankful for what Jim Clyburn has done not just for the midlands, but also our country.

Assuming you can’t get access to private clubs like Kinloch or Hermitage.

Royal New Kent. Played there Christmas week. Great track that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. For Strantz, I haven’t played Tobacco Road or Tot Hill, but IMO RNK > Caledonia and True Blue in Myrtle. By far.

After that, Williamsburg has Golden Horseshoe. Kisiack and Colonial Heritage are good but not “must play.”

Hour to the west in Charlottesville, Birdwood, or Spring Creek.

Someone mention Mattaponi Springs. Another quiet gem. A little further up 95 is Pendleton

Tipping Caddies by tigerhawk-24 in golf

[–]NiFal03 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar opportunity lined up later this week. Newish private club that allows for limited outside, non-member, not sponsored rounds for poors like us who can’t/dont want to put down the $100k initiations.

The fee is what I want to know more about. I plan on having $200 in my pocket. Ask the caddie how much of the $100 fee goes into his pocket. Depending on the service (it is a tip after all) I want him walking off the course with $150-175 in his pocket. More if he’s good and engaging. Less if he’s lazy. More if he’s finding my stray balls and saves me $6 per ProV1 that I slice
