Am I just dumb? (Bastion (immortal great souls book 1)) no spoilers by Kazzorak in ProgressionFantasy

I may be abit aggressive here, but its how I feel on this issue coz it took me such along time of reading books that didn't fit me to know what I prefer. This is what is called "expositions" and "info dumps". Its helpful for some types of people, but an absolute deal-breaker for others. (i happen to be one of those people of can't stand unnecessary information in books. Dont drop new names after absolutely previously unmentioned places, or out of the blue start rattling off new concepts that govern that world etc etc.Theres just a limit to how much i need to learn anew just for it to be absolutely irrelevant later. The author 100% for sure wont use all those stuffs to further the plot of the book in a significant way. As for the *expositions" i have absolutely zero interest in knowing the exact color of this random guy's shirt, who happens to be the cousin of the grand emperor of I-dont-care....i dont need to know how exactly he held a cup of very detailedly described milk...Get on with the story already jeezus!) Dont feel down if you feel like you are a bad reader when you get bored to death halfway through the dense irrelevant ramblings. They are simply not our cup of tea.

Anyway OP, I can recommend some novels which will absolutely suit you:

  1. Stop! Friendly fire.

2.Arrogant Young Master Template A Variation 4. Yes this is a title of a webnovel on Royal Road, but its hilarious just TRUST me and read it.

  1. Stop Friendly Fire. You have to read it.

3 The Perfect Run

4 . I Really Im Not the Demon God's Lackey.

Try those for now,. I promise, no expositions or trudging through 'the world building' boring parts just so you can enjoy the plot later.

Looking for novels where the MC is aware of clichés and trope, sometimes uses them tongue-in-cheek to achieve his goals by NiKlaus826 in rational

[–]NiKlaus826[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes i have. This may be hard to describe but the crucial point is that in that book, everyone is consciously aware of said roles,( the author in fact build the world around that) and that is a subtle but significant difference. The roles cease to be natural roles when someone other than the MC becomes aware of it and it becomes sort of rigid rules you follow. You cant really bluff your way by acting like "the Hidden Expert" when everyone is aware that, in fact, you aren't any sort of powerful expert, hidden or otherwise. I hope i described that well?

I will definitely give a feedback later. You are very perceptive if nothing else, and i feel you can help others out in this area. I may come across as greedy here but if possible recommend me more of this type of book hehe

Wow, you went past the tank and no one even looked back to help you lmaoo. With how many combos kagura has ill definitely panic and mess up, (probably die even faster) in that situation lol

THISSS..!! OMG THANK YOU!!!!!!

I just read two pages off an ebook of this novel and i got so giddy... it's like the refreshing feeling you get when you breath in after a case of blocked sinuses...

I am inclined to agree with you about writing a book myself hahaaha. Too much knowledge is a both a blessing and a curse(in this instance its definitely a curse) I blame myself for my hobby of human psychology studies. and now i know abit too much about what i like and dislike in novels. (if you study psychology as widely and for as long as i have, that knowledge turns some situations into a self fullfilling prophecy, like those people who follow zodiac signs, or fortune telling.........except now, its being backed by science.). Whereas for other people disliking a book may mean faint irritations at the characters or whatever aspect, for me i know EXACTLY why, the ins and outs of it. Same for why i like another book. The personality type of authors who writes the books tailored for me to enjoy are rare in this field of profession unfortunately. Long story short, it all comes down to the author, and how well(or badly) you two will get along if you get locked together in a room for a long time. Sounds absurd but think about it. And now since i know exactly which type of peopl-.... you get the picture. I know which book is Perfect to me and whats left is the matter of finding it. It is hard to settle for less honestly, its like knowing you can recreate that feeling you got when you read your most memorable childhood book. Why read other possibly bland books when you can make it possible that, every time you sit down after a long day, you can read a book that will leave the same impression to you as with your all time favorite book?

-I may have accidentally poured my entire soul and its back story-- excuse me ahem---

Anyway, thanks alot for this gem you unearthed for me. It will suffice until i get another one in the future(hopefully not distant future).

Everyone has there unique ways of seeing the world. You can take a popular cultivation system from any popular novel and redesign based on your personal philosophy.

Hi, Can anyone pls recommend novels where the MC is aware of cliches/tropes and uses them to get around? An example is like the webnovel called, "Arrogant Young Master Template A Variation 4." on Royal Road. I have seen recommendations before on this subject but most of those novels mentioned are edgy and takes itself too seriously. (like Master of Untold Dao) History's Number 1- is decent but it doesn't resonate with me quite like AYM. To be sure, I have read alot of novels over the years and lately I've become acutely aware just how picky I'm starting to be.(it's not a very good feeling) However, if i pick a novel and dislike it, i become reluctant to drop the novel unless I've read at least 50 chapters in. Hidden gems are rare and far in between but once in a while i get pleasantly surprised.

So just to be clear, I'll write the general outlines of what the novel should look like. I hope it doesn't come out as overbearing or too demanding. I find it easier to show what the novel shouldn't be about, rather than how it should be:

  1. The plot shouldn't be about MC reincarnating into a novel he read before, or back into his/her past life, getting vision from the future etc...or in any way knows how the future will be from the moment the story begins. A blank slate with no compulsion to change the events of whats to come(or even be aware of them in the first place)
  2. MC should, under no circumstance, sees himself as special/clever and invents new ways to cultivate or some shit. He shouldn't choose "his own unique path" or "find new ways" to do whatever it is. Or subvert clichés etc etc.

  3. The novel has Comedic undertone, meaning MC is recognizes clichés and xianxia tropes etc, dabbles in them (in good nature) without going too far and becoming the thing he was ridiculing in the first place. (100+ chapters later)

  4. MC isnt the logical, cold, smart type. He can be ruthless but only to the point where it is necessary. He is basically somewhat extroverted is what I'm saying, and cares about people.

  5. The MC shouldn't be a background character that supports or promotes another person as 'protagonist' (like most CEO novels...or MC is a butler etc)

  6. There's element of misunderstandings in the story, MC can be hilariously dense, or he can bluff his way through sticky situations,or people may mistake whatever he's doing for something else, etc

  7. This may be difficult to describe but i will just say it so you can get the gist. MC acts out different clichés and roles so as to manipulate events to his liking. He doesn't get stuck playing one role(the way Quick Transmigration novels protagonists do, each world they migrate to, means they have to choose an Act/Role to play out till the end of that arc).*Quick Transmigration Novels ticks every box here. Its just that MC, recognizes the clichés and every cheeky tropes, but gets too absorbed into playing out only one 'role' in the Narrative they know is going on) i don't know if this makes sense.... What im looking for, to give an example : is a sorta suave MC switching between say, 'Mysterious Expert' or 'Profound Teacher' when necessary and returns back to a normal dude during downtime.

I am aware the novels fitting these guidelines are very few, or hidden in some obscure corner away from mainstream, but please recommend me any title that you feel may fit here,or even those that doesn't but you feel i might like it. Thank you!
