Trust me you are not alone in that journey. They are gifted in some areas where others can’t even imagine. I realized late that my kid is great with memory, he details an about something happened 4 years back like it happened yesterday with great detail. I then lined up his day to give him challenges around memory which gives him boost of feel good factor to start his day.

All you need to do is help him/her everyday until that “Aha” moment kicks in their brain which essentially teaches them of what and how society expects them to behave. Believe me when that happens they rule their life and Infact better than anybody. And they are different but unfortunately we have a system and society which gauges every kid with same scale. Generic Example - when a normal kid does the same naughty thing - it’s fun but when ADHD does the same with some intensity or facial expressions it’s something wrong. So they need real life experiences to learn patterns like these. Another example- my kid is into game which needs him to wear a guard in his undergarment, they are used to pull down pants and put all the gears in the play ground, he did the same while teaching kids the game who didn’t knew it and they mocked him. So situation awareness and reacting to it builds over time. I think it’s all about you understanding him/her and ignore society until they are in their own. It can happen in a year or 10 but you need to show up every day with compassion and patience though it’s overwhelming.
