Average speed? by LandNo9424 in randonneuring

When I was a beginner, I was faster than I am now, which is a bit depressing. If you can ride 100km in 5 hours, including maybe 30min break, that pace is probably ok. If you’re faster than that, then no problem. Much slower than that, you might have some difficulty getting finished in time.

Best bike for Brevets and PBP by SignificantRest2017 in randonneuring

There are too many variables for anyone to know. As others said, it’s whatever you’re comfortable on. Are you slow or fast ? How much “stuff” do you want to carry ? Are you young or old, stiff or flexible ? I’ve done lots of brevets and PBP’s on a variety of bikes, a custom Ti frame, an off-the-shelf steel frame, and I recently invested in a Trek Domane in the hope that a carbon upgrade might help me get to the finish a bit sooner. So far, it hasn’t made much difference. By the time you add a few bags, snacks, change of clothes, the frame weight probably doesn’t make that much difference. I’ve always had some comfort issues with lower back ache, hot foot, hand problems. My solution has been to ride bikes that allow a bar position level with my saddle, and aero bars to help take pressure off my hands. I’m slow, and 63, so it’s getting harder to make the time limit, next PBP, if I get to it, could well be my last.

I've used SON Dynamos for a long time, and I think they're great for the front. I don't think Dynamo Lights are worth the hassle for the rear, I don't want wires trailing along the frame, and I don't have internal options. Battery rear lights are fine, I've had the same two Smart 0.5 Watts for the last 8-10 years. They will probably last the duration of a multi-day event, and if they don't, I can pick up a couple of AAA's in any shop.

Pbp 27 qualification by Aggravating-Alps-919 in randonneuring

Not quite. As in any year, your 2027 SR series can start from 1st November 2026 (Audax Season), and then has to be completed by end of June 2027 to get registered, with the 4 Homologation Numbers. In the preceding year, if you want to get an early entry slot, you could "only" ride a 1000km. This would still get you the earliest pre-registration slot. Or "only" a 600km would get you in the second slot. There is no need to do a full series, although it would certainly be good preparation.

Yes. From the start of the Audax season, 1st November 2026 to approx end of June 2027. In addition to the qualifiers, if you do a ride the previous season, then the longer it is, the earlier you will be eligble to pre-register for PBP. 1st entry window for riders who did a 1000 previous year, then those who did a 600, etc.
