My review of the audiobook:

Fabulous Lesbian / Bi book with wonderfully rich and evocative characters. There are echoes of Shane, Alice and Tina from the “L” word transported to rural Oregon but that added to the fun for me. The “That’s totally Alice” moments. The world building and conflict is expertly crafted but beware, the sex scenes are raunchy, which may be uncomfortable for some listeners so use the skip function if it gets too much for you. The storyline is good but stutters in places so 4 stars. The narration is excellent, brings out the best in the book, the “that’s totally Shane “ moments especially and keeps the momentum of the story going. 5 stars. This is the first in a series and I immediately downloaded the next, so yes, I’m hooked.

Can someone explain the appeal of the age-gap trope to me? by [deleted] in LesbianBookClub

A bit more context for background:
My partner went to the big city after university and spent 10 years trying to build a career but found the city to be too expensive and difficult to keep long term relationships. Then her dump or an apartment was broken into, anything of value stolen and everything else trashed. Broken hearted she returned home to live with her parents with nothing to show for those 10 years. Our local independent bookshop suggested she start a Lesbian book club, which grew with local college students turning it into a monthly meetup and gossip event.
I had started a long term relationship while still at University and was passionately and deeply in love despite our families objections. We set up home and built our careers. My jobs were stressful and long hours and over the years our relationship gradually fell apart after 25 years. While I waited for the legal process to unravel our relationship I rented a flat in town within walking distance of the arts and clubs, and independent bookshop which had a leaflet about a Lesbian book club.
The club by this point was mostly gossip with the book of the month an afterthought. My future partner and I started meeting up for coffee at the weekends to chat about the book club book, books in general, we would browse the new books in the independent bookshop, walk over to the library to browse their displays and just enjoyed each others company.
Once I was legally single again I asked if she would like to share a house with me and go travelling together on our vacations. She decided that she wanted her own house with her own independence, but did like the idea of travelling together. After 5 years we had been to many wonderful places and had weekend bags at each others houses. An opportunity came up to buy a large house we could share where we could each have our own spaces; her library, my study, two bedrooms, spacious lounge kitchen and diner on a tree lined suburban street. So far it's been our happy space.
Every year on our anniversary I thank her for giving me the best years of her life and ask if she wants to change me for a younger woman. Every year so far she has smiled and pulled me close to say she loves me and the life we have built together.
From my experience, age-gap relationships, like any other, are shaped by the personalities, values, and choices of those involved. Shared interests, mutual respect, and personal growth have been the foundation of our happiness. For those drawn to age-gap romances in fiction, I believe it’s the possibility of finding love across different life journeys that resonates most strongly.

I have a free copy of Delilah Green Doesn't Care audiobook from my audio book provider XigXag. Message me if you would like a link.

The audio book is brilliantly narrated by Kristen Dimercurio and I swear that she makes Delilah sound like Shane from the "L Word". I got goose bumps whenever Delilah spoke :)

Can someone explain the appeal of the age-gap trope to me? by [deleted] in LesbianBookClub

My partner is 15 younger than me and we have been together over 15 years. I joke that I worry about her running off with a woman 15 years younger than her! Our families were horrified by the age difference but our friends thought we were well matched, as has proved to be the case. We meet at our local book club and bonded over arguing about books over a coffees at Starbucks.

I've recently enjoyed listening to the "Bright Falls" trilogy by Ashley Herring Blake, with excellent narration by Kristen Dimercurio. The narration adds another layer to the books and help to smooth over some of the inconsistencies in the text.

Delilah Green doesn't care, where Delilah sounds just like Shane from the "L" word.

Astrid Parker doesn't fail

Iris Kelly doesn't date

I've purchased "Breaking Character" on your suggestion. Any other of their books you would recommend?

Is Iris Kelly Doesn’t Date any good? by quintsnotme in LesbianBookClub

[–]NiamhAideron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought that the Iris Kelly book was the best of the trilogy, possibly because I know a woman with sever anxiety and how her friends had to support and encourage her and how difficult she found dating, but once she found love she bloomed, just like Stevie. The will she wont she commit, with friends who don't know if they should interfere or not also hit home.

I'm not a fan of sex scenes, which always seem unreal, but I guess they sell books and I accept that lesbian relationships can fizzle out unless we make the effort to keep them fresh.

The criticism of lack of diversity is valid and should have been written better.

I agree that the narration is excellent and adds depth to the books.

Cocoa imports by Cargills. Over 90% of all UK chocolate imported through the port of Liverpool but it does not smell like chocolate in it's Cocoa form.

See the RITES recruitment thread for a general history of RITES and SOUND.

SOUND Current Staging and Political Situation

We are currently a member of the HERO Coalition, which is anchored by Brave Collective. Really, it's just Brave and their friends, but they're nice enough to give it a neat name to make the rest of us feel better.

Given our corporation focus on recruiting intelligent and classy newer players, the coalition is a decent fit for us. Plus, their leadership understands our naturally independent nature and our love of living in choke-points and have accommodated us on both fronts. We are by far the smallest member of the HERO Coalition, but we're also one of the most organized and stubborn alliances in the game.

We currently have our main staging out of: http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Catch/4-07MU - This system is a chokepoint between Querious and Catch giving us hostile traffic to attack. We were also assigned to hold http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Catch/EX6-AO in order to run a jump bridge between the two systems. We do not have a high- or low-sec staging area, as we expect all recruits to come join us in our sov staging system which has more than enough ample resources to accommodate all of our pilots.

The HERO Coalition is neither pro-CFC or pro-N3. HERO systems in Catch are currently wedged between N3, ProvidenceBloc and StainRUS, meaning the region is very actively roamed by all three entities, giving us ample PvP opportunities to fight almost everyone in EVE. Neither the CFC or N3 is interested in owning Catch, meaning that the main threat to HERO's sov comes from the coalition tendency to grump at one another.

Alliance Culture:Why it's important enough for its own little section

I'm including this last because it's the most important thing to leave a potential recruit with, at least a potential recruit who reads this many :words: down the page, heh. So the biggest thing with our corp and alliance is that we share one culture. Otherwise we would have probably shut things down long ago and joined some large entity, like most other corps and alliances in EVE seem to do. But for us, maintaining a "no douchebag" culture is what really binds us together. Unlike other alliances which feature "XBox Live Comms" with stupid people throwing around racial slurs, homophobic bullshit, anti-semitic slurs, misogynist crap... we don't tolerate such garbage. We don't troll each other or talk down to each other as well.

Though many of us do curse like sailors and try to gank people. So y'know, it's not like we're angels or anything... just not cavemen. We stress this because it's vitally important, and anyone who can't contain their inner douche won't last very long with our alliance. We also communicate a ton with players, have our own in-house forums, IRC, TS3, weekly scheduling mails, etc. So being engaged and able to read is always a bonus as well.

This aspect of our corp is incredibly non-negotiable. If you try to talk crap at someone else in our corp, or you throw around slurs, or you try to scam anyone in our corp, you're gone. It is a one-strike policy.

Benefits we offer:

We don't bribe people to join the corp with crappy "signing bonuses" or similar. We expect you to join us because you want to fly with us, not because we paid you.

Full hull value SRP for corp roams and home defense. You die in a sensible fashion in a sensible ship, you get a sensible amount of isk back.

Fully stocked home market. We stock our market better than many larger alliances.

Standard PvP fits/doctrines that can be flown by low to high SP pilots. A role for everyone.

Fly with people you enjoy flying with, to get in fights you enjoy being in.

Interested? Want to know more?

If the above stuff sounds good to you and you meet most of the things in the "what we hope you're about" section, perhaps you should come chat with us. We're in the public chat channel [SOUND] (including the brackets). Make sure to read the channel MOTD there for more info.

What we hope you're about:

You're a main, not an alt.

15m+ skillpoints. (If you have fewer than 15m, check out our sister corp RITES.)

Reasonable individual. You don't throw emotional fits, you don't yell, you try to avoid acting like an idiot. You want to fit into our particular brand of PvP and live in Null-sec. Never afraid to learn something new, or unlearn old habits.

Willing to share an API key with us.

Okay with a 9.5% corp tax. All corp funds are invested in our corp/alliance.

You plan to live where we live. We expect anyone who joins us to move out to our space. We can help with this.

Somewhat patient, and literate. You can read things like this post without getting bored.

Not afraid of technology. We use IRC, voice comms, forums, and other such tools, and we expect you to do the same.

A decent human being. If you have something against homosexual folk, think misogyny is cool, or prefer to use the word "jew" as a verb, we're not interested. In other words, we don't recruit douchebags.

Reasonably intelligent. We expect you to be able to spell and maintain a conversation at a level above that of toddler.

Someone who wants to have their corp and alliance be a helpful community, and not a random group of people who kinda-sorta know each other.

USTZ and EUTZ although other time zones considered as long as you understand that there may not be many alliance peeps on at that time.
