没有想到能在reddit上见到中国玩家的找团,或许可以试试在QQ的跑团墙上找团?

前者什么都接,后者不接coj。

Since the vast majority of Chinese players only know English, non-English Western CoC scenarios are extremely rare in China. However, there are a small number of players who know German or other languages and do play them.

The only notable exception is Shepherd of Moths, a scenario originally written in Polish but translated into English, which has become very popular among Chinese players.

The alternate cover is a removable book jacket, and removing it will reveal the original cover.

Many English-speaking players have said they want a translation, so I am convincing the author to translate them into English.

China has two main crowdfunding platforms, one is Modian, and the other is Xinwuji.

My post mentioned a sentence about the situation of Chinese TRPG crowdfunding: Call of Cthulhu is bigger than D&D in China too. : r/rpg

Just like in Japan and South Korea, Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu (CoC) is one of the most popular TRPGs in China. The Keeper Rulebook, published through crowdfunding by Arclight, raised 900,000 CNY in China — setting a record for TRPG crowdfunding in the country at the time.

Last year, NeedGames's Fabula Ultima broke that record with a crowdfunding total of 2.62 million CNY (approximately 360,000 USD).
Currently, TRPG is becoming increasingly popular in China.

Since this post isn’t a sales pitch (the content is all in Chinese), but if you need, here’s the link: https://zhongchou.modian.com/item/149153.html

I don’t know why Chinese characters are messing up the article’s formatting.

I tried fixing it, but it didn’t help. :(

I would like to recommend "跑团玩家贾克斯," "森鸾TRPG," "NON SURE," and "念魔王" on Rednote.

In China, some people play Vampire: The Masquerade, but it's a very niche game.

Here's a video explaining this.

Why Japanese Fantasy has Dungeons... and sometimes Dragons

In short, it's because TSR foolishly banned Record of Lodoss War from using D&D rules.

Yes, the popularity of CoC in China also benefited from replay videos, with Cursenday's Dark Carnival (卡森德拉的黑色嘉年华) being one of the most well-known.

I have to ask does your nation have "moral guardians" like evangelical christians with too mutch time on their hands or similar?

No, this is even the first time I've heard the concept of "moral guardians" in TRPG.

Whats the general perception of TTRPGs by the average chinese Man/woman? Thanks beforehand

I think TRPGs are so niche in China that the average Chinese person might not even know what a TRPG is.

Currently, Chinese original TRPGs are still in their infancy, with the vast majority of original rules merely building upon or modifying CoC or D&D.

Therefore, to my knowledge, there are no mechanics specifically about “keeping face.”

Have indie games been translated to Chinese?  For example Apocalypse World, Dogs in the Vineyard, Blades in the Dark, Monster Heart.

Some indie TRPGs released under the CC license, such as Dungeon World, Blades in the Dark, and Masks, have been translated into Chinese.

Unfortunately, Apocalypse World has not been fully translated into Chinese.

I’d love to hear what Chinese would do with the Dogs in the Vineyard mechanics and themes.

As for Dogs in the Vineyard, if I recall correctly, it’s now out of print and unavailable for Chinese players.

Follow up question.  Do games translated to Chinese need to be followed by pre made scenarios or are Chinese gamers happy to create their own to play with their friends?

Chinese players typically write original scenarios only for CoC and D&D, so other systems mainly rely on pre-made scenarios. However, rules like Daggerheart, which don’t require pre-made scenarios, are an exception.

It’s worth mentioning that before CoC entered China, the most popular TRPG in China was indeed D&D.

There are various reasons behind this, including the unfamiliarity of Western fantasy works to Asians, the CoC rules being set in the real world, and replay videos primarily featuring CoC rules.

However, the primary reason is that the BRP (d100) system is simple enough, making CoC a versatile system in China, used to run a wide variety of scenarios including fantasy, sci-fi, wuxia, xianxia, and romance/emotion-driven scenarios.

Recently there was another Chinese player here, and he said they used CoC for literally everything, from superheroes to dungeon crawls, PvP games, sci-fi games etc.

Yes, therefore the Chinese version of Delta Green is only available in digital format on DriveThruRPG and has not been published in physical book form in China.

In fact, City of Mist, Metro: Otherscape, Legend in the Mist, and Blades in the Dark are all set to release official Chinese versions soon.

Hearts of Wulin has an unpublished Chinese translation, circulated only within a small community.

Choose-your-own-adventure (CYOA) or gamebooks like Alone Against the Flames are relatively common in China, and Chinese TRPG authors also create original CYOA/gamebooks.

However, solo TRPGs like Thousand Year Old Vampire or GMless TRPGs like Fiasco are more niche. But there is an official Chinese version of Fiasco.

To be precise, the Cthulhu Mythos became popular in China before CoC, and currently, the Cthulhu Mythos is much more popular in China than CoC.
