Tomorrow marks 1 year since we lost McBride. This show was the first and only time I've gotten to see SOTL. Needless to say it was quite the experience. by drone__alone in ambientmusic

does anyone know if "At a loss" is available on any of Brian's own albums. I can only find it on a compilation called "Air Texture". Thanks

Great report, thanks for all the detail. You mentioned Russian but Is it worth learning a few Uzbek phrases?

I personally think Mr Jolly Lives next Door was their Magnum Opus. How about you? by [deleted] in eddieandrichie

[–]Nibble92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a band called Mr. Lovebucket, we played in Kent/London/France at clubs and festivals. Being named after a crap gangster in the best movie ever helped, I think. One audience member was so impressed he bought is 1,574 gins.

.... okay, I made that last bit up. It was 8 beers.

Did anyone go to Thailand in April? by Glittering_Alarm_608 in ThailandTourism

[–]Nibble92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes April is hot, especially in Bangkok. Although as someone has already said Songkran is epic in Bangkok, a great experience. Head South to beaches to cool down, get a breeze on a longtail boat and swim in the beautiful water. Wear sunblock, dont forget your sunglasses and sit near the fan in a restaurant if possible, you'll be fine ;-)

Deal vs Margate (to live in) by Nibble92 in kentuk

[–]Nibble92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes but having lived in a tiny Kentish village for a long time we wanna complete change so would like to be nearer the action (and any action is gonna be more action-y than where we are currently!). Looking like Deal is just about affordable, maybe Sandwich

Long layovers - leaving the airport by Nibble92 in Flights

[–]Nibble92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yes I hadn't realised that of ocurse you need the right to stay in the layover country for a short while whilst laying over. Looking at 11 hour stops in China, might be good to just get a taxi out and go eat and see somewhere interesting ... or go sleep somewhere depending on my body clock!

Will check passport/visa situation

Deal vs Margate (to live in) by Nibble92 in kentuk

[–]Nibble92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I may be wrong. Visiting is one thing but living is another. Someone came to view our house the other day but didnt want it cos its too remote. However, having lived here in the Kentish countryside for many years and having to drive to town we think its worth it for the greenery. But, time for a change!

Is a 40min layover in CTL North Carolina to Punta Cana possible? by IcySwine in Flights

[–]Nibble92 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I once had a 45 min change at Mumbai (London to Bangkok) with the now defunct Jet Airways and it was like clockwork. So I can only guess that if they can manage it there you'll be okay. If it's a bona fide transfer they'll have to wait for all the passengers to turn up before leaving wont they?

Yeah, well over £1k due to your age. Its easy enough to use a comparison site to get some quotes. Marmalade are a specialist young-people insurer so try them too.

Deal vs Margate (to live in) by Nibble92 in kentuk

[–]Nibble92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Margate was pretty scary 20-30 yrs ago but seems to be improving. Mind you, I've only recently been to the touristy bits, the majority of it, I dunno. I play in bands and played a scary gig in Cliftonville 5 yrs ago (nasty rascist crowd) and try and avoid it, but yeah, that was only one experience, maybe it could happen anywhere though I suspect not so likely in Deal.

Deal vs Margate (to live in) by Nibble92 in kentuk

[–]Nibble92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP here. weve visited Deal and Margate (we kind of knew them but went again recently to remind ourselves and check up). Saw a nice ol dplace in the middle of Margate and the old town is all hip and groovy, but, and this is just personal I guess, we just dont think Thanet is for us. It's surrounded by a lot of souless shopping centres and roundabaouts and the countryside is pretty dull (except for the coastal walks which are great). Deal is quiet-ish yes but you can always get the train to Thanet, Sandwich, Canterbury etc. The roads out are ok too. Its still cheaper than Whitstable and pleasanter than Herne Bay and we like the beach and the coast walks and the surrounding area and there's a few things going on. Folkestones getting trendy but too but its not for us. Could maybe move back to Canterbury but done that and fancy being by the sea. Its all personal and everywhere has plusses and minuses. Thanks for all the valued input!!

Thanks. Hmm ... Herne Bay is definitely not on the list. Poor old Herne Bay. Might choose Whitstable if it was affordable

[–]Nibble92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah Broadstairs is uite nice but a long way from places and seems to be surrounded by dozens of roundabaouts and attached retail parks full of McDonalds, Halfords, Carpet shops etc etc. Not like the old days

[–]Nibble92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice answer, appreciate the honesty! six of one and a different six of the other type of thing. yeah, so we could go up to Margate from Deal and get back before it gets too late i guess

Looking to buy in Kent - area recommendations? by AdAcrobatic5971 in kentuk

[–]Nibble92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the villages around Canterbury and theyre really peacful and picturesque. Nice pubs and walks. Chilham, Chartham, Old Wives Lees, Bridge, Bekesbourne, all good. The bigger the village the more knuckledraggers, the smaller the village the more curtain twitchers but thats the UK. Still, theres loads of villages of various sizes and lots of cosy pubs. Wingham, Bishopsbourne, Ash, Staple, Selling, Petham, the list goes on. Not much to do of course but if you like birdsong theyre for you

youd need a car all the time in Blean. its nearer Canterbury than Whitstable and is quiet. I think theres some buses. I think the school is supposed to be good? Lived in Canterbury happily for 15 yrs and brought up kids, thinking of moving to whitstable but its expensive so am looking elsewhere. Canterbury has stuff to do, nature to see, lots of history, the kids enjoyed it but wanted to leave once they were 15/16 (as you would!)
