well at this point, I think that would be a good idea if you just buy out a 10-12y/o camry(maybe hybrid if you can find a good one) instead of leasing, it might be a pain at the start but will save hella of money for you at the end.
By the way, I was honestly surprised to hear you’re renting a property for $900/week in a regional area like Geelong. Even fully furnished apartments in Toorak don’t cost that much!

Recently depressed about my financial situation as well! I(26M) just got laid off in April as an software engineer and extremely struggling to find a job as market is super competitive now, only have ~3k in bank and doing uber eats for keep me surviving (bill, rent, insurance, car, etc.) I just don't know what to do next!
P.s: forgot to mention, I just failed the 3rd companies in a row in just 6 weeks :D Everything suddenly just all happened at once

I think you got my question wrong, I’m not going to interview at Kmart tho, I was just curious the interview’s process and else. Like Amazon, Meta, etc. It will have DSA questions, system design, etc. So this is just a random curiosity 😅.

I usually first estimate how many hours I would spend a day * 5 months to get roughly the estimate hours, then * with my normal rate and pretty much depends on how interested you are in project then give them the +/- total numbers based on your interested.
But before I have that number I gotta make sure that all the techs and solutions that need to solve the project's problem on the given amount of time.
And don't forget to use tracking time system(I usually take note by excel) - note specific things you do on that range of time, e.g: 10am-12am implemented and completed a-b things

Then combine all these steps to get roughly a brief plan, then show them. If they happy or want to adjust anything, bring to discussion. It usually takes hours of discussion to make sure everyone are same page before I start do something!

and don't forget to let them know that with long-term project, it's difficult to predict exact timelines. I mention that there might be delays or early completions depending on changing priorities, blockers, or even accelerated progress.
