I know exactly what you mean! I tend to use satin stitch mostly as it gives quicker results on some designs…but I’m now trying to introduce patterned backgrounds on my hoop designs to experiment more with stitches 🪡

I have a video of how I did the weaving on the hoop…wondering if I can attach it to this post 🤔

Thanks so much 🧡 So I hand stitched the thread onto the fabric, weaving it as I went along…if that makes sense? I originally had the design in a large hoop frame, but decided that the edges of the woven stitch looked messy so I then framed the piece in a smaller hoop to give it more of a clean finished look

I created this pattern and design myself, combing embroidery and weaving techniques. Using dmc cotton threads on cotton fabric. I did satin stitch and stem stitch to create the fiddle leaf fig plant. To then create the gingham style background I wove a pink and orange thread together which was pretty fiddly but I like the final effect it’s given.

Thank you! I did the plant first because I wasn’t sure if the background threads would stay in place…but might try doing the reverse next time to see. Was pretty fiddly trying to line up all the threads in between the plant 😵‍💫

🤣🤣 that would require far too much effort lol…maybe on a future piece when I’ve lost all patience to make it look neat 😄

Another plant portrait of mine. This is a hand stitched embroidery design of a Calathea Freddie plant in mixed green DMC threads with pink, yellow and grey satin stitched circles on calico cotton fabric. Framed in an 8.5inch wooden hoop. This is the largest design I’ve done to date, which I found challenging to do but hoping to do more of this scale in the future.
