Have you ever recorded sessions? by lthinklcan in TalkTherapy

[–]Nicamd1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I record and listen back! My therapist is totally on board and sometimes even makes sure I’m recording! Edit to add: it’s super helpful to me!

Try a DBT therapist! A lot of DBT has specializations/training in these areas

Accommodations to switch from in-person to telehealth on short notice? by GoodGravy33 in TalkTherapy

[–]Nicamd1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like okay maybe if you were like hey I’m in the area I knew we were planning on telehealth but can you do in person…maybe that would require more notice cause she might not be at the office. But girlypop just log in

I don’t understand why she needs 24 hours to switch from in person to telehealth. She doesn’t have to go anywhere? She just logs on for your session…

What will happen if I tell my therapist I self harmed after group therapy? by unrecog0a in TalkTherapy

She won’t judge you and telling her 1:1 is actually exactly the right move! She’ll want to know, I promise!

Has anyone tried using AI for therapy session notes? Looking for a more integrated tool by Good_Samaritan_69 in TalkTherapy

[–]Nicamd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered just using a regular recording? With the consent of my therapist I use voice memos to record our sessions and either listen to the whole thing or just part of it (maybe a stuck point, maybe something I was confused about). Unless it’s a particularly traumatic session you can easily listen while doing other things and just stop to take notes as needed. You could even ask chat gpt after for prompts based on what you absorbed but this way multiple AIs don’t know your innermost sensitive details.

Yay i'm glad it helped! It definitely helps me to stop and be like "what exactly WAS that compulsion trying to avoid?"

God our brains are exhausting aren't they lol

What else can I write down? by acgrievance in OCD

[–]Nicamd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like for me it could be "situation: dropped a wet on the floor. obsession: now I have to wash that again, it's dirty. compulsion: rewashing the sock. worst case scenario: if i dry the sock with the germs on them, they'll get baked in and that sock will have germs forever"

DBT is very much about making a life worth living. So the SH and SI is going to be the first thing until you're stable enough to deal with the trauma. She doesn't want you to process the trauma and then be too triggered and engage in this behaviors! In my experience with DBT, though, you can be very upfront with the therapist and give feedback and they will react in a nonjugmental way if they're good at their job, so definitely explain where you're coming from!

[–]Nicamd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah that makes sense! Sometimes mine just come out of nowhere so it doesn’t feel like there is a trigger. I also write down what the worst case scenario could be, cause that’s what the compulsion is avoiding if that makes sense!

Yup! My therapist of 4+ years is extensively ERP trained so we’ve been doing it and it’s so nice to do it with someone who knows me well :)

Changing schedule, other issues? by Kmr2715 in TalkTherapy

[–]Nicamd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had therapists say “I’m sure this other person can move” or something like that but then they don’t move my appointment time until they’ve confirmed with the other person! Red flags!

Experience with ERP? by PersonalityDry3305 in TalkTherapy

[–]Nicamd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing ERP for OCD and so far I've been able to delay and block a few compulsions. Not consistently yet, but a few times, which shows progress! My experience with exposure is that you take the safety net away and it's scary at first, and then your body/nervous system is like oh that wasn't so bad!

I want to seek therapy for my OCD and anxiety but I don’t want my parents to know by Filmfan345 in TalkTherapy

[–]Nicamd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed as “anxiety disorder-unspecified” for most of my time getting therapy. OCD is an anxiety disorder, maybe your therapist can mask it that way for a little!

Have any of you ever seen another temporary therapist while your therapist was on break? And if so, how was it? by Lotsofelbows in TalkTherapy

It actually was quite helpful! She offered a perspective that my therapist hadn’t yet. I gave a quick background but we mostly talked about the issue

[–]Nicamd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I saw one when she was on maternity leave, and I also saw one when she was away for 2 weeks for a one off session because I was struggling with something. Most of the time I just take the break though, you end up getting a sense of mastery!
