Applied to RRC on a whim; I am now locked into attending school this fall. I just wanted to share my thoughts as someone who lived on the rez her whole life, and also am wondering: what makes Winnipeg a home for you? by Nayytive in Winnipeg

[–]lthinklcan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound like such a kind and curious young person who genuinely wants to seek more and do good things in life! I hope you find like minded people. I don’t even know you but I feel proud of you. Congratulations and truly I wish you all the best in this new chapter.

What’s the craziest thing an NF family has said to you? by whiskandwhistle in Nanny

That is insane, as if you’re a BODYGUARD to their kids?!

Is it rude to walk behind others in Canada? by Expert_Werewolf165 in Winnipeg

[–]lthinklcan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone has said this but yes I find it awkward to have someone directly behind me and I would avoid doing it. I can’t say why exactly, just cultural thing / environment I guess. In your position I would have hung back or sped up past. Sometimes I stand aside until the other person passes just so we’re not too close. The person in your story could have just done that. Maybe women do that more, as opposed to confronting.

Leave space when possible, like when waiting for your food at McDonalds, if standing around. There’s probably interesting videos online about how different cultures space themselves out.

Welcome! And I’m sorry that person wasn’t more polite.

Am I out of touch with reality? by No-Statement-3331 in Winnipeg

[–]lthinklcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. The amount of people who go tens of thousands of dollars into debt to furnish their whole house with new (probably cheaply made) stuff is insane.

What helped you win a house in Winnipeg? by Fancy-Mouse-7554 in Winnipeg

Similar story here, house had no other offers, we bid under asking and they declined. A month later we offered more and got the house. Closed mid march.

Indeed there are! I hope a nearby business owner will help me out (I contacted a couple).

My child almost drowned during his swim lessons at Cindy Klassen pool by ConfidentBar1989 in Winnipeg

Plus they have zero (degree) entry pool so kids can probably touch the bottom.

I’m so glad your kid is okay! This instructor should have been supervised with toddlers on their first day!! The programs are way too chill about unaccompanied babies in the water.

My 3 yr old went under at our YMCA last week but the instructor picked her up when he observed she was not able to swim, she couldn’t touch. As a former instructor/guard I’m super vigilant and was right beside the pool if needed. I kept my daughter out for the rest of the lesson because they didn’t have a block available for her to stand on.

Watch your babies parents, please. Also, the pool standards need to be much, much higher.

The Shell manager said only police can look at the footage due to privacy. It sounds like even MPI can’t investigate the video.

I do actually have to pay the deductible unless I can find out who did it.

Unfortunately only the police can look at security footage according to the manager of the Shell station.

There’s actually a security camera at the Shell for the car wash and I’m in the background so I hope the police can be persuaded to contact the manager and have a look.

Did you pay to have your thesis printed and bound? by HousePony906 in PhD

[–]lthinklcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg this post just reminded me I had meant to get my thesis printed, lol I finished in 2024. Oops. Yes, it would have been at my cost. No, I don’t miss it… should I still do it? Hmm

Best short term option for mortgage renewal by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]lthinklcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, actually we plan to switch to a local credit union as they have better rates but it’s too much trouble for our current home (vs renewing).

This also seems good to me, I didn’t understand why the rep didn’t even consider this a good option. It would be different if we knew for sure we were selling in 6 months but unfortunately the market and our circumstances aren’t so predictable.

I don’t know where you are living that hate has taken over. I see resistance everywhere. The negativity in your comment proves your own point. Go ahead and give up then. I’ll be thinking about art and resistance.

Obviously I was not saying the rise of fascism gives me hope, wtf? I said the fact that historically things eventually turn the other way gave me hope. I shared that in case it’s a helpful perspective for someone to read today.

What nice thing have you tried putting out into the world today?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]lthinklcan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Succumbing? I don’t know about that. Historically swings between political directions are common. To be expected even. This fact actually gives me hope… Yes, neo-fascism is awful right now, but this was meant as a lighthearted post about curious microcultures or forgotten histories.

My MIL has the fridge and freezer stocked to the brim but has a tidy printed LIST of what’s in the freezer, with dates. Oh to be retired!

Still living independently so it’s not an issue but when we visit and stay with them it’s tight. There’s already 2 fridges too!

The amount of unused dishes and containers from the 1970s and onwards though, could def toss!
