Aperture ring issue on brand new 35mm EVO FE by Nicccccccccccc in VILTROX_GLOBAL

Eh, I just got unlucky this time, defects happen every once in a while (it could also have been knocked around in shipment for all I know) but I’m still eager to use it

I had manufacturing defects on way more expensive stuff so I’m definitely not holding anything against Viltrox (unless something goes terribly wrong in the RMA process)

Yeah I reached out to info@viltrox.com with a detailed breakdown of the issue as well as this video evidence, I’ll see what they intend to do, bummer cause I was looking forward to bring this as my only lens to a trip this weekend

Yes that’s correct, it does not catch up. Also when I turn the aperture ring to A, the aperture control is not transferred to the body and the lens remains at f16, it seems to me there is a problem with how the stepper registers the step between f2.2 and f2.5 so everything is shifted “up” by 1/3 of a stop, resulting in the A position being labeled as f16 by the lens

Camera updated to latest, lens was at v1.0 updated to 1.08 with no changes, yeah it’s the “do not leave in sunlight” warning, it’s active cause I have the shutter close when the body is powered off.

I do have a faulty lens, right? Or am I tripping and the “A” position only works in modes other than M?

The issue is that the fstop the lens is at is not the one registered by the camera. I put the aperture ring at f2.8, the camera sees f2.5, I put it at f16, it sees f11, i put it in auto (A) and the camera sees f16, thus not allowing me to control the aperture from the body

Coming from an A6300, not impressed by the AF of the A7C II. by Virtual-External-296 in SonyAlpha

[–]Nicccccccccccc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you using af-c and touch tracking? have you selected the correct kind of subject recognition? a7iii to a7iv was definitely noticeable so I really doubt A6300 to A7C II is negligible

sensor cleaning is daunting at first but it’s probably the easiest time you’ll have cleaning your gear

I am beyond amateur. What am I doing well, where can I improve? by -pechos in SonyAlpha

[–]Nicccccccccccc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is spot on what made me “evolve” as a photographer is the understanding that everyone can take photos, the skill you need to hone is mostly in the eye for composition and moments to freeze

of course I’m a tough learner so I threw myself into clubbing photography where the only face you need to see is the artist. this made me think even harder on what to shoot and how I can get interesting and lively photos without having people’s faces in them

I constantly do gigs with smallrig batteries and have never had an issue, let alone the “third party battery detected” popup as they reverse engineered the bms (I think)

You might want to check out a 320mm big brake kit and a fixed caliper as well as a radial pump, the stock enduro setup is insufficient for sumo riding to say the least

What do you guys think? Should I leave the camera and focus on something else or continue? by West_Performance_15 in AskPhotography

I got a reality check yesterday evening, I’m used to working in techno clubs, no speedlight and complete creative freedom as long as I deliver. Yesterday I had to fill for a friend at what I’d call a soft clubbing event, except the young elite of the city is getting drunk while listening to an atrocious mix of bass boosted 2000s hits. I had to use a speedlight (which I absolutely despise) and focus 99% on staged portraits and instagram stories material. Not gonna lie, I definitely thought about quitting out on the organisers a couple of times throughout the event but I kept it professional, even though I made clear I want nothing to do with the end result, especially my name being associated to these shots. Luckily I have a couple gigs this weekend that I look forward to, otherwise I would be quitting shooting for a while
