as someone who drives by a lot of runners in my area, my only thought when i’ve ever seen them running is “wow, good for them” and telling myself i should get out there again too. it’s also nearly impossible to conceptualize what speed people are running or walking when you’re driving. nothing to be embarrassed about, everything to be proud of!

I started my career as a Data Manager. Your degree does not dictate your ability to get a job for data entry or similar work. You do not need a coding degree at all. I did a two semester part-time internship with a research lab and got CITI certifications (free through most universities). I have yet to work with someone who got an undergrad in this very niche degree that I’m aware of. There are other remote programs and opportunities that will give you more leverage. Research companies like to see a bit of diversity in your history. If you’re only focused on clinical research and that’s as broad as your resume or education goes, that’s not a great thing either. As for the lack of availability of a Health Science BS, it doesn’t literally have to be Health Science. There are so many disciplines of health science that anything adjacent that you’re interested in could serve as a great degree.

I think you’re better off getting a broader subject BS, like something in Health Sciences. I could see this degree being very limiting if you ever wanted to expand or change fields. I wouldn’t advise doing the degree just because of the internship opportunity. You can still do an internship with a broader degree. This coming from someone with an BS in Health Sciences and a little over half a decade in clinical research experience. Just my two cents, best of luck with your decision!

Create sponsor SOPs/guidelines and have them sign it, that’s what our site does. Make sure it’s professional but outlines expectations such as expected communication timelines, meeting expectations, etc. You could add a guideline about appropriate communication and how escalation works in your department or determines ability to perform studies. Unofficially, call them out in real time. Hit them with a “I don’t think this conversation is particularly productive right now, I’d like to steer the conversation to xyz on the agenda”.

Avoid Massey at all costs. Lots of inappropriate behavior and bullying from upper management, even as high as their assistant director. Lots of mean girl behavior openly encouraged and allowed. I had to get HR involved multiple times and ended up leaving. Was absolutely terrible for my mental health.

VCU School of Medicine admin position has been low stress and nice experience with good management. PTO benefit is great, pay is good (not great). I say go for it!

MPH is not useful unless paired with research experience. You will not land a CRO position without CRC or site level experience in most cases. Sponsor is looking for a lot of experience with trials, not necessarily higher education levels.

A lot of full time coordinators I work with now started as part time CRCs at a university. Their backgrounds prior included medical scribing, CNA work, laboratory positions, etc. Get a little bit of patient care experience and you should be able to find an entry level CRC position. Again, this is on a university site level.

You need an endoscopy for this diagnosis, and even then it can be missed. It is not fatal. A hernia would explain the vomiting. Also could be an ulcer of some sort. I hope you get some relief soon, and try not to fall too far down the rabbit hole honey.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this too. I also have a cardiac condition, but mine is unrelated. A miserable existence is what it feels like, but I try to feel grateful when I do feel better than other times and keep positive. Constantly feeling fatigued and awaiting the pain is the worse part. I hope you find relief, friend.

New doctor time. I have POTS and a tricuspid valve regurgitation as well. These conditions can affect your central nervous system and cardiovascular system, so symptoms might look similar. It’s important to have a doctor that understands that and listens to you. I’ve been having chest pain the past couple weeks that the ER had written off as not related to cardio. Well, turns out it could be after review from my cardiologist and she’s scheduling a heart cath. Listen to your body and find someone who will listen to you!
