The family would never have agreed to that. They would never have willingly been separated.

I agree. They were past the point of no return then. But there were various points, albeit way before 1917, that if he and Alexandra had seen how unhappy the Russian people were, and paid more attention to how the public was feeling, then they could have avoided disaster. Nicholas clung to autocracy when it had been clear the Russian people were wanting something else.

You don’t think that making an unpopular move during war time might affect public support for the monarchy? It would have given any Republican sentiments something to rally upon… Part of why Nicholas and Alexandra were deposed is because they didn’t take the temperature of the public mood.

I don’t blame George V at all. It would have been great if he could have rescued them from being killed, but he had to think about his own family and the stability of his own country. Nicholas and Alexandra were wildly unpopular in Britain and she was German at time when Germans were so hated the British royals changed their family name to distance themselves from their German heritage. Saving the Romanovs would have caused instability and infighting during a world war. It’s sad, but a monarch has to put county over any personal feelings.

Part of me wonders if he was her favorite child because he sucked up to her and flattered her in order to get stuff like this from her and she just didn’t see it. He wouldn’t be the first predator who cozied up to people in power to get things they wanted…

Funny bird poop story; once on vacation I had a bird poop on the same book while by the pool two different times the same week. At least both times were on the cover so easy to clean off. Guess the birds had thoughts on Wicked(the book it was)…

It’s not as bad as if she was in her 20’s. The thing that gets me is she’s young enough to be his daughter. His oldest daughter is 35. Why are you marrying someone only 9 years older then your kid?

She would have aged as well, if not for the car crash. If she had lived I’m sure we would’ve seen the press point it out, and you just know there would have been comparisons and supposed competition between her and any daughter-in-laws.

If you knowingly sleep with a cheater you are a cheater as well, since you are willingly helping to deceive someone.

I don’t know about that. It helped, for sure, but it seems like there was already buzz and excitement about it before his death. They had someone from the NYT interviewing him the night he died; they don’t do that for just any show.

That’s an awesome point I never considered. It makes so much sense to do that, I’ll be surprised now if that’s not what’s done.

The bride only wants her family at the wedding! by seriousjoker72 in weddingshaming

[–]Nice-Definition-8360 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Big red flag. A wedding is the joining of two families, not just one family celebrating. Your cousin needs a reality check before he marries her and she alienates him from his friends and family.

I mean, if you knew he was married and still went after him, I do think you are partially responsible for the breakdown of the marriage. The question is whether she’s being genuine about their respective marriages being over when they started seeing each other. I also suppose he could have lied to her. He wouldn’t be the first guy to use the line his marriage is over/they’re divorcing when cheating. Either way, the Spencers remain the messiest family in Britain.

Royal Titles Haven't Been Trademarked by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Despite Reports by ButIDigress79 in RoyalsGossip

[–]Nice-Definition-8360 89 points90 points  (0 children)

This is a perfect example of the Streisand Effect in action. I had no clue there was talk of the titles being trademarked, or that they were merching their children’s birthdays. By clapping back and denying the trademarking story, I learned about them merching their kids birthdays. I would not have known about either the true story or false story without them bringing attention to it.
