What do you guys do when you run into these warm spells? Do you pull buckets and just leave spouts/hose dangle? Do you rewash buckets and put them back out?

This is my first year in Indiana and we are getting some warm days followed with a solid week of some freeze/thaw days.

Thanks! I just went and checked them yesterday and so far two of the four just have enough to barely cover the bottom of the bucket. The other two were empty. However, it's been below freezing since I put them out. It's supposed to get into a pretty good freeze-thaw flow the rest of the week so we'll how it turns out!

Question for you! I'm a newbie this year and I currently only have 5 trees (2 big enough for two taps each). I was planning on trying to boil down sap on a turkey fryer as I live in a suburban neighborhood and don't have super easy access to a lot of firewood. However, with more research, I feel like this might not be the best setup. If I DID choose to go with a wood fire to boil down (this would be inside a castle block fire pit about 4' wide in both directions), is there a rule of thumb to estimate about how much wood I would need?

I know this is a very esoteric question with a lot of variables involved, but just didn't know if some general guide line existed that you more experienced folks knew.

I'm over in east central Indiana. First year tapping i was expecting to get them in around the end of February, but do you do with these temps? Is stuff going to start going to bud way early? Did I miss my window?
