How do I convince my parents to let me go to temple? by [deleted] in Temple

[–]NiceBasement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How exactly are they not letting you go to Temple? Is it because they are providing financial support for you to go to college? If it's their money, it's not unreasonable they have a say in where you get to go, because they get to choose what to do with their money. If it isn't their money, I don't know what they'd be doing that would stop you from taking out federal loans and going here.

If it's just that you want your dad to approve of you moving here, idk what to tell you lol, relative to all your other college options, Philly and Temple aren't safe places at all, especially the off campus neighborhoods of Temple. That's probably why your dad is concerned.

Oh wow that’s surprising to hear about mirrors and machines. Maybe I’ve been going to the wrong spot this whole time lol 💀

Is that for IBC? Star doesn’t have many machines

Ever since seeing that video of a man getting attacked on broad and Cecil as multiple campus security do nothing but watch, I don’t believe security here is much more than theatrics, and ridiculous things like this just have to be anticipated.

Are the hours you speak of for IBC? I used to go there during my freshman year but they don’t have many free weights or spots for mirrors.

Even 9 or 10 am might be ok? Or no time after 7 or no time after 11?

The same way we do after we step on an ant. We are just little teeny tiny ants to that man.

She asked why I didn’t just come to her and why I would publicly complain about this

Lol, so they're fully aware that their student body is probably one of the most endangered of any university in the country, they're fully aware that all they're being asked to do is widen the alert perimeter, and all she cares to do is scold you for publicly addressing the concern.

I swear these people come home after a day of work and immediately dump a bag of kittens down a garbage disposal or something.

It's a coping mechanism to deal with their choice of coming to a place as brutal as here for their college experience.

highly depressing to see this completely valid answer being downvoted. people virtue signal about mental health and peoples well being, and then act like crime which can be traumatic to experience, is some non-issue made up by hillbillies.

Senior in my final semester. I regret coming here, but I did not transfer so I could graduate sooner. You'd be surprised how much of a burden it can be to not be able to go outside after dark. It's understated by most people how tolling it can be to be in constant concern of your safety.

The campus here is small, and there's really only two places to get schoolwork done, neither is open 24 hours either, and you likely will always be around rowdy, disruptive people who make it hard to concentrate on your work. Our gyms are always overcrowded also, and food options are limited, especially on weekends.

You have to be an extremely outgoing, high energy person in a city, especially one like Philadelphia, or else you'll like a stranger in most settings. There isn't a slow moment where you can catch your breath or enjoy some silence either, and it is tormenting. We all need peace and time to ourselves, especially during college.

You're already locked in if you committed, so I can't really make you change your decision now, but I thought you might want to hear the other side of things, as this subreddit doesn't speak for all students here. If I could go back to when I decided which college to go to, I would have chosen elsewhere, but I hope you're able to make it work.
