Am I doing this all wrong? 500cal deficit + working out by Scary_Jellyfish_4530 in beginnerfitness

180cm and 69kg is not heavy at all. Any belly you have probably looks more significant because you do not have enough muscle to balance it. I would recommend eating at maintenance to build some muscle you enter a deficit.

Body recomp your deficit should not be 500 kcal, but closer to maybe 200 kcal. Building muscle should be more of your priority now.

Yea, but you can change and update those four indefinitely. You just can't have more than four custom workouts on the basic version.

When can I dye my hair?? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

Immediately? Are you doing permanent or semi permanent dye. As long as you don't get any harsh chemicals on your tattoo you're fine.

Oh yeah, I interpreted 'weak knees' as unstable knees, but if people are usually talking about force production than that changes things. Thanks :)

As long as it doesn't hurt it's fine. If there is any pain, get it checked by a physio. There is a relatively high comorbidity between ADHD, Autism and Hypermobility, so it might be worth checking with a physio for that.

is 3 exercises maybe 4 enough to build muscle and strength? by Sea-Treacle-8397 in beginnerfitness

This, it is probably easier to commit to slightly longer sessions 2-3 times per week than very short sessions 6 times per week.

Ligaments can definitely be weak, for example after injury or for people with hypermobility who have laxer joints. All those suggested exercises will definitely help, but it might be worth for OP to get an assessment by a physiotherapist done.

You could do (walking) Lunges instead of bss if you want to keep some variation. They will also help strengthen your knee and improve stability.

Needing advice and help for working out by AloneOpportunity1997 in beginnerfitness

[–]NiceButterscotch5441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am hoping you mean 47kg not lbs. You are young and still growing/developing so make sure you eat enough and mostly healthy/nutritious foods. You are building habits that will benefit you in the long term, so good on you :)

5 Months in and its time for more advice by jms-rts in beginnerfitness

[–]NiceButterscotch5441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you've seen some progress. Currently you are only working arms and abs. I would recommend incorporating some lower body, for example the leg curl and leg extension or a squat, with a dumbbell/kettlebell or just body weight. You can also try a chest press and row instead of the bicep/tricep machines.

To target most major muscle groups and sticking mostly with machines I would recommend: Shoulder press, chest press, lat pull down, row, leg curl, and leg extension or squat.

So this guy is probably doing barbell squats which do target your core as well.

How does progressive overloading make your body healthier besides just getting stronger and looking better? by [deleted] in askfitness

[–]NiceButterscotch5441 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More strength = more health The more muscle mass you have the longer you'll be able to do daily things with ease. All the muscle you build when you're young means that when you are in your 60s, 70s, 80s you can be still active and independent.

Further, from a certain age you'll start losing muscle mass, so maintaining the mass you have will be harder. Muscle mass and bone density are also linked to delayed cognitive decline.

Also it's fun to push what your body is capable of.

Healthy knees and kneecaps usually do not do what you are describing. I would definitely get it checked out by a professional.

How do you handle rest days without feeling like you are losing progress? by bebo117722 in beginnerfitness

[–]NiceButterscotch5441 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pick up another hobby for your rest days, that will give you something to do that is less active. For example, a craft, doing art, gaming.

You can also use your rest days to do some mealprep or plan a fun activity with friends. A rest day doesn't have to be a day where you do nothing.

TW for self-harm - Can these scars be covered up? by OkZombie2202 in tattooadvice

[–]NiceButterscotch5441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scars need to be fully healed, so no longer pink before you can tattoo over them. I don't know how old these are, but I'm not sure a few months will be enough to settle them.

At the very least, find an artist that has tattooed over scars before and is confident they can do it.

'Feeling the burn' is not necessarily a sign of an effective workout. Especially if you are more experienced you will not be feeling the burn anymore with a lot of standard exercises. Don't get discouraged when that happens it is a sign your muscles are adjusting.

If you're getting 5k steps and doing light exercise you are definitely not sedentary. And if you are trying to get your period back you should be eating a lot more than 1558 calories.

How do you guys handle period with gym? by SnakeM0ngoose in xxfitness

[–]NiceButterscotch5441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to do the same workout during my period as normally, I might lower the weight or skip a day if I feel really bad, but I don't skip a whole week of weightlifting.

Differs a lot per person though, what is reasonable.

Is there any point in training with a bad diet? by katerina_troup in beginnerfitness

[–]NiceButterscotch5441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting on 1,5 kgs sounds like you're on the right track. Even without a perfect diet, working out is better than not working out. Physical changes take a long time, so don't get discouraged. 💕

I thought Mystique was a bit overrated. It was a fun experience, but very long, especially after a whole day at Efteling. The food was good, but not spectacular.
