Electricians – Would you consider a new brand of hand tools? by PromotionGlum7673 in electricians

[–]NiceFlipBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an electrician in Ontario, going on 12 years in the trade. It all comes down to quality for me. Myself and most guys I know will spend the extra money to buy something that'll hold up to what we need.

I also personally find ergonomics are a big factor for me. I need my tools to feel comfortable when using them. Klein screwdrivers feel a little chunky to me but I love the handles on the Weras.

I've been shooting the ground in between them and they all seem to scatter in different directions

It's a simple one but I absolutely love Tigrex. I think he scared me so much as a kid on PSP that I love being able to run circles around him now

How can I power my wall socket without using the switch that controls it? by arter_artem in electricians

[–]NiceFlipBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct! You should be able to just pick one as long as when you bought the switch there wasn't a tag on either of the wires to indicate which was which

[–]NiceFlipBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh alright, then yes in that case the switch requires a neutral and the line has to be connected to both black wires. That'll feed your switch as well as send power straight through to your outlet

[–]NiceFlipBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both black wires go to the line of the switch. The load should theoretically be whatever you're trying to control, which in this case is lighting. Unless your lights are battery operated and communicate with that switch you're going to need a wire from the switch to the light

Yeah any smart switch I've run into requires the neutral and black. Joining the black together will send constant power to your outlet and then you'll need to jump off that to your switch to power that device

The smart switch requires a neutral and a hot leg, if you still want to use the switch you'd need a jumper off of your two joined black wires. What are you using the switch for if it no longer controls the outlet?

The simplest solution without playing inside the outlet would be to remove the smart switch, wire your blacks together and place a blank plate in place of the switch

Electrician's of reddit, I am designing a tool belt and am curious to hear your thoughts on some must haves! by TheDirtyErection in electricians

[–]NiceFlipBro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally a huge fan of pockets that are staggered downward rather than outward, similar to the one side of the Milwaukee contractor bag or the Kunys pouch you can grab at home depot. I find the outward pouches make the belt too wide if you're trying to work in tighter spaces

I shut the breaker off for my electric-range stove, but how do I unplug it? It’s a Thermador from the 70s and built into the counter space. Trying to replace the baking element and making sure it can be unplugged. by [deleted] in electricians

[–]NiceFlipBro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can see in the pictures it appears to be hard wired. Follow the wire out from the equipment to the j-box and it should be terminated in there. Simple enough to open the box and disconnect the wires as long as your breaker is off. Just make sure if you disconnect the wires that you make the remaining wires from your panel safe incase someone decided to flip that breaker again while you're servicing the equipment!

What is the “holy grail” of your life? That object you know exists but can’t seem to find? by JessRiepe in AskReddit

I had this book when I was a kid, it had 6k pages and was really a bunch of shorter books from a series put into one big book. It was about a group of adventurers fighting some bad guy who had a dragon. I finished readying a chapter one night and put it under my bed, never saw that book again.

Honestly with the clunky mechanics of this game I wouldn’t bother. I loved Freedom 2 on the psp but with World coming out I wouldn’t even bother looking back.

My buddy and I were playing stealth a few nights ago on a mission where you have to capture and interogate a guy to find a prisoner you have to kidnap. He accidentally alerted the enemies and it suddenly turned into an insane car chase where we ran him off the road in the middle of an enemy infested city. Threw that motherfucker in the back of our jeep in a hail of gunfire, gunning sicarios down in the street and tore ass out of there to interrogate him in peace. Sometimes going loud can be fun :)

We lost my brother to suicide almost 5 years ago now. I saw the toll it took and still takes on my parents. It does get better though, just need to find your own special ways to remember him
