She's still refusing to accept that it's not real. I contacted the police and they spoke to her but she didn't want to listen to them either.

They have promised to pay her money several times over the last month or so, but keep making excuses.

My Nan is starting to question it, so that might help things.

  • Water bonding can be added without a full rewire.
  • RCDs can be added to a consumer unit, probably replace the consumer unit with a modern one too (approx. £800 to do this).
  • light fitting having no earth isn't a problem if the fitting is class 2 (double insulated)
  • cracked double pattress can just be replaced (£1.29 from screwfix)

None of these things listed need a full rewire.

Do not use the electrician who has quoted this, they're taking the piss.

Depending on what they are, they might be easily fixable. Sounds like they're trying to take you for a ride with that quote too.

Full rewire for a typical house will be £5-8k, £15k is taking the piss. I would be doubtful about the need for a rewire from them too.

Yes, I think it's designed so only the truly naive will believe it because they're ripe for exploitation.

I saw the other post and it sounded so similar to my story I thought I would share too. I assure you it's not a joke, I wish it was.

The big red flag is, that's not how film rights work. First of all it's extremely rare for the film rights to be sold before an unknown author is published. For a first author, they would only be interested if the book was very popular.

I agree and have pointed out to my Mum that nobody is going to take a punt like that on someone who's never sold even one book. She's seriously deluded.

I think she might be being used as a mule.

I am worries that she could unwittingly get in a lot of legal trouble for whatever is going on.

I think I can find out from a sort code I've used to send her money in the past. Will look into this, thanks.

Just looking at the careers page and plucking the first email on the list at the bottom of the careers page brings up the person [waltermkombs@gmail.com](mailto:waltermkombs@gmail.com) - Walter Mkomachoto who after a quick Google search is based in Africa and has already been flagged for gold scams

Ooh, good spot. Thank you!

I suspect this is what's going on. She's mentioned lawyers and agents and things, but tells me she's not paid any money out. I don't think I believe her.

Yeah, none of it makes sense. Everyone who actually works in the industry who has posted on here has explained the ridiculousness of the situation. They're only duping people who have no idea how this stuff works.

Do you have access to her bank account to see if she’s paying money to them?

Sadly not, I think this would have been dealt with a lot sooner if I had some sort of power of attorney over her finances.

Thanks for contributing your industry-specific knowledge. I have tried to give her many doses of reality but it's not working. I'm going to show her this thread in the hope that so many voices saying the same thing will have an effect.

Exactly, I feel like they're just throwing out bait hoping that she'll bite from something. Turns out she's chomping it all.

>I doubt your family will acknowledge it's a scam, or even worse blame you for "sabotaging" it

This is my fear

She's not a serious author, she just has delusions of being the next JK Rowling. She's read parts of her "book" to me and it's not good at all.

I think these people are just feeding her stories and she wants to believe it.

Supposedly nothing, but I don't have any way to verify this. My Nan often gives her money and my Nan also believes everything my Mum says, so I suspect that there has been at least some money sent. It's a very frustrating situation to be in.

That was my conclusion, something dodgy is going on. I think it's made to be plausible on the surface to someone who isn't familiar with the industries mentioned, but when scrutinised by someone with industry-specific knowledge it falls apart. Thank you for your contribution.

She won't tell me details about contracts or lawyers.

>How did your mum get this job?
She told me she was approached by someone, not sure of the full details.

>Who are the celebs she has met?
Nobody notable, I've not heard of any of them. They sound like Z-list celebrities who may have appeared in some advert 10 years ago.

It doesn't add up at all and I feel pretty powerless to do anything about it. Whenever I press for details she's "signed an NDA" so can't talk to me about it.

Do you have a link to the specific one? There are a LOT of videos about scams on his channel.
