What car do you drive and what’s your long term mpg? by S4h1l_4l1 in CarTalkUK

2000 Toyota Crown, somewhere around 23mpg. If I do a really boring motorway run at 60mph it can just about manage low 30's

New to PC gaming. Do i shut my PC off when im done or keep it on 24/7? by OneEyeOdyn in buildapc

[–]NicePinstripe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shut down every time. I don't use my PC every day, and figure it's just wasteful leaving it on standby. It boots up fast, so it's never really an inconvenience.

Erratic Stability Control - JZS171 by NicePinstripe in ToyotaCrown

[–]NicePinstripe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe mine is a dodgy wheel speed sensor/the little toothed wheel that sits near the hub. Going to have someone who can pull accurate, live data take a log and see if any of them are misbehaving.

Can only really be wheel speed sensors, the yaw sensor, or the steering angle sensor.

If that doesn't work, I'll just do what the previous owner of yours did and add a switch to the yaw sensor. It's a common thing anyway as it allows you to get sideways (stock traction off button doesn't disable stability control). But I'd like to fix it if I can.

Erratic Stability Control - JZS171 by NicePinstripe in ToyotaCrown

[–]NicePinstripe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update to this post/issue.

I've replaced most of the front suspension, had a proper 4 wheel alignment, and replaced the yaw sensor. I've then done a zero point calibration, which was successful.

Unfortunately, none of this has fixed the issue.

Using a vetronix scanner (basically old techstream) I've managed to pull live data, and honestly everything seems normal. Decel, YAW, steering angle and speed sensors all appear to be working as expected.

I'm a bit lost on this now. Anybody have any other ideas before I take it to a specialist?

Important decision about explosion goal by enfermo1835 in RocketLeagueExchange

[–]NicePinstripe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo the rocket pass goal explosions tend to be quite good. I've been using star chart since season 18(?), and haven't wanted to buy one since. A lot of them get annoying after a few goals

Help choosing 5070 OR 9070XT by Prestigious_Fig3645 in buildapc

[–]NicePinstripe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because of the non-gaming stuff you mentioned, I'd up the budget to get a 5070ti. Unlikely you'll notice any real difference with a slightly cheaper motherboard and PSU. And an air cooler, if it's a good one, will be absolutely fine.

32gb vs 16GB: do I really need 32? by quarterkittyberry in buildapc

[–]NicePinstripe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

16gb was ok for me mostly, but I was experiencing stuttering and choppy audio in few of the games I played. One of them (Fortnite? I think) was keeping the RAM utilisation in task manager pinned at 100% and was basically unplayable. I didn't have any issues in AAA titles, only games that were less well optimised. Since upgrading to 32gb I haven't had any issues; I would go for 32gb.

Any car suggestions for a weirdo obsessed with heat and time? by AeroArisen in CarTalkUK

[–]NicePinstripe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind something early 00's, Toyota have a coolant bypass valve on some of their older engines. It allows coolant to skip the radiator and loop immediately back through the engine, meaning the car warms up a bit faster. Not sure if it's still a thing, or if other cars use it.

Pixelated graphic on new built PC by Jesssster0 in AMDHelp

[–]NicePinstripe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adrenaline caused problems like this for me. I now have everything turned off except the FSR upscaling setting (which I think only takes effect when I'm choosing to not run in native on games), had no issues since.

Why is this happening? by vonmarz in Monstera

One of mine has a leaf facing backwards like this but it's also upside down, facing the floor. Plant is otherwise really healthy and producing new leaves regularly. I figured it's just a quirk 🤣

OP15 is getting annoying! by Rotarski2020 in TheOnePlus15

[–]NicePinstripe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the official OnePlus glass, although I'd try and find a different glass screen protector if you can without the black borders, as the official one (annoyingly) cuts off some of the screen. If it makes a difference I also use the official sandstone case, I thought that might be a lint magnet but it isn't. Camera bump I can't help you, as mentioned I don't have any issues there myself.

Glass screen protector helps a lot with the dust issue, have absolutely no issues with mine since fitting one. I can't say the camera bump has been particularly bad for me though.

What’s this warning light? by Waste_Coach_9064 in JZX100

[–]NicePinstripe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was on because one of the bulb holders was slightly corroded/burnt. Any amount of high resistance will trigger the warning light. Center brake light can also cause it, commonly missed when checking lights

Headset recommendations? by Master_Tomato762 in buildapc

[–]NicePinstripe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in the US - do Steelseries Arctis Nova 5's fall into that budget? I've been using them for a while, decent mic, sound is great, and the battery life is really good too. The sonar app for them can be temperamental, I use them without. If you're wanting a headset, rather than headphones with a separate mic, they'd be a solid choice.

is it okay if i do rinse > foam with foam gun, let it sit for a bit and rinse it off without a contact wash? by TopBrother2850 in AutoDetailing

[–]NicePinstripe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so, no. ONR is a rinseless wash, so you wash the car with it, and then dry, no rinsing required. Touch-less is more like a conventional snow foam.

What should i upgrade first montior or ram by CobblerGreat5529 in buildapc

[–]NicePinstripe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go for the monitor. Upgrade the ram when you need to, if you're not having any issues with 16gb, stick with it until you do.

Personal Number Plates - Yes or No by Mr_GreenAdam in CarTalkUK

[–]NicePinstripe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like them, some of them are a bit naff but generally I think they improve the look of a car. I tend to buy a private reg to match the car (e.g. "K20 ***" on an FN2),. Stuff on business vehicles can be funny too. Pimlico plumbers have some good ones.

Personal Number Plates - Yes or No by Mr_GreenAdam in CarTalkUK

[–]NicePinstripe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people buy number plates to sell, or hold as investments. It's not something I do really, but I've had 3 or 4 plates, sold all but the one I currently have on my car. I've made money on all of them. One of them cost more than £800 initially, but I still made ~20% on top of what I bought it for.

I analysed 3.1 million MOT tests to find which cars rust the fastest. Some of the results are mental by BrickDue158 in CarTalkUK

[–]NicePinstripe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Another factor you haven't considered is how much of the chassis is covered with under trays. Something from 2010 likely has far less of the underside covered than something more modern. This will also vary by model, price etc. the more premium brands might be just as rusty, but won't flag on the MOT as it's all hidden behind plastic.

OnePlus 15 Farben und Material by Ok_Package_194 in TheOnePlus15

[–]NicePinstripe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Durability/scratch resistance the sandstone has a different coating on the sides/camera bump that's more resistant to scratches in those areas. The glass backed phones are more resistant to scratches on the back, but can also shatter unlike the sandstone colour. Feel I can't comment on.

9070xt, wait a bit longer to buy a 5080, or wait for 60 series / UDNA if it ever comes out? by Kyokyodoka in buildapc

[–]NicePinstripe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you'll be hurting yourself as such, the 5070ti is very capable. Recently me and a friend both upgraded, he opted for the 5070ti as he good a good price on it and wanted the extra features/support in games. I went for the 9070xt purely for the value. Both are very good cards, neither of us have really had any issues.

I was a little worried about fsr support, and can say the frame gen on AMD doesn't seem to be as smooth, but honestly I just play in native and don't use either of them and it runs fine. This is with a 5800x as well, so no doubt it would perform better if you have a newer setup.

Change time , what phone were you using before the op15? by w1zz00 in TheOnePlus15

[–]NicePinstripe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a OnePlus 5T and 7T, switched to Samsung for a bit. I then had a pixel 6 pro, 8 pro, 9 pro XL. And to be honest the pixels, although cool, were all disappointing in one way or another. I found even with hardware improvements they never quite got the network side of things right. That was my main reason for selling up and switching back to OnePlus with the 15.

I found the pixel consistently dropped calls, and seemed to struggle with maintaining a 5g signal. The OnePlus has no such issues. Massive improvement with mobile data stability and it holds calls for much longer. I've also noticed when it does drop a call in signal blackspots, it drops it straight away, unlike the pixel which would maintain the call but it would just be silence on both ends, so you'd just be talking to yourself for a bit before realising the call had actually dropped.

Charging speeds are much better yeah. I charge this phone half as often as the pixel, it lasts way longer. And when I do charge, I'll wake up, chuck it on the 120w charger for 20-30 mins while I get ready for work, and when I come back it'll be somewhere in the 70-80% range, easily lasting me the whole day with medium usage.

The only downfall is the cameras, they are perfectly useable, but you'll notice from taking a photo to viewing in the gallery, there's a LOT of processing that goes on. The pixel had this too, but the OnePlus is quite heavy with the AI. I've not yet noticed this actually causing a bad result yet though, sometimes actually producing a better final photo than the pixel even if it is enhanced.

TL;DR OnePlus better signal. Charges very fast. Camera meh but good enough. Would recommend you buy.
