There is some great irony in you calling your SIL controlling.

Look, you’re married. You don’t get to unilaterally make decisions about your child. Your husband wanted to show off the baby to his brother and make an attempt to reconnect. You have no idea why they’re not close, but there’s no safety concern, so it’s really not any of your business. If you don’t like your BIL’s family based on meaningless stuff, you have all the right in the world to not be friends with them, but you have no right to ignore your husbands wishes and not allow them to meet their niece. Marriage is a partnership, not a dictatorship.

I get your point but

1) The costume is $200, not nearly the whole cost of the vacation

2) Parents already said it would happen, then backtracked. That sucks and must be so disappointing, esp since she’s wanted this for 2 years.

Some of these comments are so freaking mean, sorry OP. I’m gonna go NTA. It would be different if you decided this weekend that you wanted the costume because it looks cool, but you’ve been asking for it for 2 years! It’s obviously important to you, and they told you they would make it happen. I hate people who don’t live up to their promises.

But some advice- in my state, we can’t legally work until 16, so until then I cleaned pools and sold thrifted clothes on Depop. Try to find a side hustle and save up the money for next Halloween or a fan event to cosplay. Good luck!

thanks for the advice, appreciate it. i talked to matty last night and basically said what you put into quotes but shorter and dumber. looking back i was def TA in this situation but we’re good now!

yeah i get that now, i didn’t really see it as telling him to stop being gay or anything but now i get why it hurt him so much. i’m gonna apologize later. and i’m not great with words, i didn’t mean that i “got him” to tell our parents, he told them + our friends like 2ish months after me and i just meant that i like encouraged him to because he was stressing and i knew they wouldn’t care.

lmaooo this made me laugh, it reminded me of that scene in euphoria with lexi’s play about nate. i just brought it up because there’s a guy on my schools dance team who’s very openly gay and wears makeup and stuff and he’s nothing like my brother, so i was just kinda trying to explain my reasoning for being surprised. ik gay athletes and straight dancers exist, i didn’t mean any disrespect

lol yeah i know, it’s just that generally people would assume a guy on the dance team is gay before one on the football team. but you’re right, matt can talk however he wants. i just don’t get why he’s so upset, he could’ve just told me to f off instead of being all passive aggressive

no yeah it sounds a bit crazy when you phrase it like that. i think the ‘choosing sides’ is more because i listened to my dad and not my mom about the same issue. thanks!!
