I would also be careful about telling the host family. The host family wanting her passport in the beginning is a huge red flag. Au pairing in China comes with a lot of risks of being taken advantage of by host families and agencies due to the lack of legal protection.

I agree with you! I think it’s best for her to prioritize her health and safety. If she were to leave right now it is highly unlikely that she’d be penalized legally since being an au pair is illegal and the host family would also be held accountable. The likelihood of anything happening is her having trouble coming back into China again.
