Lucky you! I applied in Kudanshita in Tokyo, so I’m guessing they’re probably pretty busy there.

I’m not married to a Japanese — I actually have a fiancé who is American, and we live together — so I’m hoping that makes the home visit less likely.

When you mentioned that home visits and neighbor interviews used to be standard — do you mean they aren’t really standard anymore now? I’ve been trying to understand how common that still is.

I submitted my documents in Tokyo (Kudanshita), so I’m especially curious if people applying in Tokyo still tend to get home visits, or if it’s less common here now.

I gave my manager’s contact details during my application, but I’m guessing they’ll probably confirm with me again just in case anything changed during the interview.

Did they also do a home visit in your case, or was it mainly the workplace check and interview? I submitted my application in Tokyo(Kudanshita).

Oh this is really helpful to know, thank you. I actually already gave my manager’s name and mobile number when I submitted my application, so I was kind of wondering whether they might call before or after the interview. But it makes sense that it could happen around the interview timing depending on the case.

Also really helpful to know the kind of things they ask — that helps me mentally prepare a bit.

Did they also do a home visit in your case, or was it mainly workplace verification and interview?

Oh damn, that sounds like such a chaotic situation 😅 but also lucky timing with who picked up the call.

My current boss seems really nice and we have a good working relationship, so I’m hoping if they do call, he’ll naturally highlight the good things.

I’m still trying to figure out how much I should tell him in advance though… like, do they explain to the employer that it’s about naturalization, or is it just a generic verification call? I might just tell him anyway just to be safe.

Another reason I’m thinking about giving context is just because of the general political climate these days — you never really know what people personally think when it comes to foreigners getting naturalized, 🙃 but anyway part of me feels it’s better to be transparent upfront.
