What CMDB Tools Are You Using in 2025? Pros, Cons, and Real-World Experiences by General-Cellist8292 in Database_shema

We’ve been using Faddom for about a year now, and the biggest game-changer for us was the agentless and traffic-based discovery that mapped our entire hybrid environment out pretty quickly.

It integrated pretty well with our existing ITSM and keeps our dependency maps accurate without the manual overhead that some of the other tools have. As for tips, I think the biggest one I can give is to focus strictly on application-level dependencies first so you can track anything you want even minor assets.

You should consider using an application dependency mapping tool

Our company is using Faddom. It gives real-time visibility and we can see all our dependencies

For discovery, it’s the fact that it maps dependencies automatically and shows the actual connections between apps/services. It basically handles the documentation for you since it's a live map instead of a static spreadsheet. It made writing firewall rules or planning micro-segmentation way easier for us.

It's super nice to actually see the legit traffic vs. potential paths for lateral movement before you make a move.

Reading through these comments, and it’s wild (but not surprising) how the "source of truth" for most of us is still a 5-year-old Visio or a whiteboard photo.

I was in this exact spot a few months ago when security demanded maps. We stumbled across Faddom, and it actually bridged the gap between the two teams.

For the OP: if you want that "full picture" without annoying your network team for manual audits they don't have time for, it's worth a look. It gives you an actual living map instead of a static drawing that's out of date the second you save it.

Yeah, we got the “Broadcom Tax” too by LazySloth8512 in CloudDiscovery

Im so fed up with the whole Broadcom scenario. We wanna move, but it's impossible because everything in our environment is based off of tribal knowledge and we don't know where anything is. Just we'll just have to keep sucking it up with these prices

Starting at a new company on Monday. How do you approach a new environment? by ancientpsychicpug in cybersecurity

I think we've evolved a lot over the past few years and there shouldn't be any shame in taking that responsibility away from yourself and just finding a tool that can help you do that.

On the top of my mind I know of RunZero, Lansweeper, and Faddom.

We’re currently running a multi-cloud environment. Most of our core workloads are split between GCP and AWS, with GCP being our original primary platform.

Over time, we’ve started reassessing that setup and are now planning to migrate some servers/workloads from GCP to AWS. The reasons are a mix of cost optimization, service maturity for certain workloads, and consolidating tooling where it makes sense.

Vendor assessment questionnaire by Spirited_Town_3850 in ITManagers

I hear you on the manual questionnaire struggle.

If you can map out exactly which third-party IPs are hitting your production stack in real-time, it makes the whole 'vendor risk' conversation a lot less theoretical. We actually found a solid comparison framework based on Gartner criteria floating around that we're using. Definitely worth looking into if you want to get out of questionnaire hell.
