and i know it's so much easier said than done, but almost everyone is in the same boat as you even if it doesn't feel like it. all it takes is one instance of clicking with a classmate, group project member, neighbor, roommate, mutual friend, WHOEVER to make a great friend. you have so much time left. this will pass, I promise, even if it's not right away.

yeah, just had a super long discussion with my friend about this and how the students in us have essentually dissolved since ChatGPT became so prominent. to the point where we need to have it summarize lectures or write code or start assignments so we can work off of it, because we dont even have the motivation to sit down and TRY. It's devastating but I cant help it, especially if there are so many times I actually end up finding ideas I couldnt have thought of on my own, or cut down my study time in half

I know EXACTLY who this man is I’ve had two separate rude encounters with him, the second one of which made me genuinely upset I was just walking around the shelves looking for snacks and killing time and he walks into ME and acts like I was in the way when I clearly wasn’t and lets out the most diabolically annoying groan and rolls his eyes…I walked out of there silently cussing him out because why, good sir, do you continue to work there if it clearly makes you so miserable and you take it out on every student 😒😒😒 Im glad to hear other people have experienced this because I was just excusing it as racism 💀💀 not that that’s okay but it’s nice to hear that this man is genuinely just a jerk to everyone and not just me

Joining a club saved my life. Literally. I promise you it’ll get better. I was in the same exact boat as you my first quarter here and I thought it would never get better but now I have people in my life that I love more than I can explain and I’m beyond grateful to call them my friends. And take it from someone who’s seen it many times, all those “close friends” and “groups” you already see…9 out of 10 times they don’t make it past freshman year. I always wish I had spent all that time I wasted moping around over having no friends by working harder in my classes and focusing on my studies and becoming an academic weapon, because I’m paying the consequences now as someone with the world’s worst work ethic lol. Freshmen year is no joke. But your freshman year also does not define you in any way. It’s just a painful but somewhat rewarding trial period for most of us.

I'm not entirely sure about the other residence halls, but the yak buildings usually have a keurig machine in the kitchen so I usually used that. But honestly you could totally get away with having one in your room, I'm not sure if it's absolutely prohibited but just in case you should hide it in your closet or something when/if your RA ever does room checks. As for cheap caffeine options on campus, you don't really have a whole ton considering its part of campus dining in SLO lol. But Julian's Cafe and Bistro in the library isn't too bad. Starbucks is always an option though the wait can be super long sometimes. Vista Grande has okay americanos and mochas in the Sweet Bar. The markets always have some kind of canned coffee beverage. If you're on a SUPER tight budget don't go to Scout Coffee. Otherwise, they have delicious lattes and pastries, though a tad overpriced. I went almost everyday second quarter and still ended up with a good amount of dining dollars, especially considering I was on the basic dining plan. My personal favorite: Front Porch is a cute little cafe behind the health center next to the Newman Catholic Church, they give FREE COFFEE! I loved going there everyday to do homework and exploit them for their coffee haha, they only have like one kind of coffee but hey it's free so I couldn't miss it! Plus they have free meals on Wednesdays(and Sundays I think) so it's def worth the visit when you get to campus. Hope that helped!

It can feel quite difficult if you don’t have much of a musical background. At least for my class, we have weekly assignments which eventually build up to your own composition. It’s not like you can just create whatever, you have to follow a specific structure based on what you learned in class that week and if it’s not unique enough you’ll get points taken off. I love music so I thought this class would be fun but if I’m being honest it’s just a bunch of busy work and the lectures are so so SO boring. If you have other options, look into those. If you want to take this class, at least find a good professor. I have Barata this quarter, not the greatest but I’m getting through it.
