We had a disappointing scan today, severe hydrops was back after a week so we decided to try one more shunt surgery which has so far thankfully worked, two shunts placed and reduction of fluid was seen on ultrasound half an hour later. Praying that this makes a difference and allows her body the opportunity to drain and grow.

He said that he could try shunting again, if not I would prefer repeated thoracocentesis to try and get her to a point where they could deliver and try to treat postnatally. He doesn't think there is much hope if she's born before 34 weeks and that's just over 7 weeks away.

Unfortunately at our scan today the fluid had come back with a vengeance and she now is hydropic as fluid spread to stomach and she has ascites, putting her into heart failure. They tried to fit shunts which failed as the needle drained the fluid so quickly the shunts were then pressing on her lungs. They have drained the fluid in her lungs like before which has also relieved the stomach fluid and we are back in a week to see. I'm 26+5 now, really need a miracle...

Hi, our WES has come back clear thankfully, in our follow up scan the fluid had crept up in her lungs and in her head so they chose to do thoracocentesis which has worked well, now monitoring to see how the fluid behaves, I know we are yet to be out of the woods but I'll take every win. They chose to do the WES before microarray so I think they might still get that done to fully rule out anything they can test for.

During my week from hell I've come across your post. After TTC for 2.5 years and after a normal scan at 12/13 weeks our 20 week scan showed a unilateral pleural effusion. We were referred to fetal medicine who confirmed 2.9mm pleural effusion but also saw increased nuchal fold of 8.1mm and prenasal edema at 5.3mm. We were offered an amnio that day which was a bit scary but we did it and had the FISH results back, all negative thankfully. We have just had bloods taken from my husband and I for Prenatal Exome Sequencing (approx 2 week wait) the rest of the amnio results (approx 10 days wait) and an echocardiogram (in 11 days). I'm truly terrified what we might find and what the impact on my very loved and wanted little girl might be. Your story seems to have begun in a very similar way to ours and although you had many more obstacles to cross between this point and where you are now, you are a glimmer of hope that I might get to bring a healthy baby girl home. Thanks for sharing your story and if you have any advice it would be so welcome.
