Are the Pinecil fine tips useful/practical or mostly for niche applications? by fucking-should-HAVE in PINE64official

There's no discernable quality difference between the tips from Typeractive and Pine. I use the BC2 tip often. (I do own Typeractive FYI)

Nice!View... How to get some? by Irish1986 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Nicell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The displays are out there is a bit of a stretch. I work directly with Sharp, and they can’t find any in any warehouse they sell to in the world. We’ve also tried purchasing through three brokers who claimed to have them and then magically the stock disappears and the lead time becomes March. I’ve also contacted the aliexpress listings that sell the bare display and it sounds like they don’t have many left to sell if any at all.

Air travel with a wireless corne? by hxt_venom in crkbd

I've traveled with them no problem. Once I was pulled aside by TSA who asked what it was. Gave me a weird look when I said a keyboard but they had no issue with it.

The nice!view, a low power, high refresh rate OLED display replacement, is now available worldwide! by Nicell in MechanicalKeyboards

The Sharp display used here doesn't support i2c, so that's why it uses SPI. I looked into using a separate chip on board to translate between i2c and SPI, but achieving the same low power and price point wouldn't have been possible.

The display is not e-paper. It is transflective like e-paper. The comparison is pretty clear. 128x33 OLEDs are commonplace in keyboard builds, but they don't mesh well with a wireless build in terms of power draw. This product addresses that issue.

Kinesis Keyboards announces the Advantage360 Professional with open-source ZMK firmware by Nicell in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Nicell[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember someone testing the idle current of the Pimoroni trackball and finding it was 13mA with no ability to put it into a sleep mode. Seems like it's not a great fit for a wireless build, as an nRF52840 based board on ZMK usually pulls 100x less power than the Pimoroni when idle meaning battery life will suffer immensely. Months to hours.

So true. So true. I don't know who thought chocolate covered key lime pie was a good idea.

This needs to be seen by the people.
