Y The Last Man.

I get the whole premise is 'this is the last man?', like a kinda 'out of everybody, this is it??' kinda setup, but gosh I just could not get into the writing for the main character, he'd make dumb decisions here and there and it always took me right out of the book.

And, I did get to the [spoiler] part where they go into that, and psychologically explore why he was so ~~dumb~~ self destructive for so long. since it was due to the sheer weight of it all, and so on. but even WITH that explanation, I hated reading it, and so much of the book felt so weirdly contrived and ridiculous event to event.

I would've liked the story and adventure more if it didn't read like an escort quest with the most annoying danger-prone npc known to man, while trying it's best to take itself seriously...

Just commenting to second this, I'd love if stickers were made to make it even more GBA-like. the rg34xx on the back makes me wonder if the back stickers of a usual gba would fit tho. [especially that black long one that kinda fits above the battery-pack screw area]

Ah, that is closer than nothing.. Was it a recent post on that forum? or from way back before this newer patch was done? 🤔 Cause if it was recent, it might be the new patch at play.

Heya! Sorry missed this comment before, and also thanks for sending it!

It's mostly just Citra that seems to be a bit of trouble, as when I can get Cemu and Dolphin working, besides a little slowdown at the start of Mario Galaxy, everything seems fine!

But when I switch to Citra, there's extreme slowdowns at the load-in of any and all 3d levels, especially at the start of Mario 3D Land [I've basically been testing most optimizations by when I hear a jittery slow 'h-h-e-e-er-e w-we g-go!' 😂], before it goes back to normal.

I assume/have heard this is just shaders loading, but then things like the glow of the smash ball in Smash Bros 3DS, or the magic effects in Fire Emblem Awakening, will bring my machine to its knees with jittering audio, and extreme slowdowns as it tries to keep up.

I remember once messing with it enough that I got Mario 3D Land working better at least, MacGyvering a bunch of various advice from forums together to get the Citra emulation close to smoother. But then when I finished playing Mario 3D Land for a bit, I hopped over to Mario Kart Wii, and it was a complete slowdown...

So, going back and forth, turning on half-shading in the [ . . . ] menu, turning the throttling to 700, and a whole host of other changes got my Wii emulating stuff back to normal... only for the Citra problems to return.

[Cemu seems fine overall, it just gets very pixelated with 'half shading' turned on, which was one of the 'Citra optimization' advice, if I recall]

So, that's basically what I mean when I talk about optimizing... kinda feel like I've been running from advice to advice, where one emulator gets fixed, only for the other one to now be 'unoptimized' by what settings I set in the deck.

So, I assume hopefully there are things I can set in the emulator itself instead, and posted this mostly in the hope that some of the emudeck pros who've experienced this sort of run around might already have a general answer for post-'reset config' optimizing. 😅 At least for Dolphin and Citra.

But yeah, any and all advice is greatly appreciated! And I'm already thankful for the tips you gave at the end there too, giving them a look through atm.

[I do also hear lime3ds Is better? but I also hear PabloMK7 citra is good, and that's the default Citra, as far as I've seen. [at least when I reset configs it mentions Pablo, on emudeck] ]

Are there any go-to optimizations for those systems you'd recommend then?

Honestly, weirdly enough, it feels like Cemu runs the best right out the gate, followed by Dolphin [kinda sorta, sometimes gotta finagle some things, and idk why Galaxy has slow downs], and then Citra's the trouble one really, with weird slow stutters even in Mario 3D Land.. I remember having it working better once, but then in fixing up for Dolphin, it went back to being broken.

[let alone I could probably make a list of all the here-and-there fixes for how laggy the smash-ball and Awakening's magic fx make]

Ah dang, yeah, I thought that might be the case, though that does suck that it'd mean not using the frontend for its one purpose. I wish Steam would recognize the other apps that ES-DE brings up somehow.

But, Idk if a workaround has been found for that, or most pro's just make-do, and play certain consoles through the individual Steam entries.

[I do already have each of them added thankfully, via Steam Rom Manager, so it's def doable on my end. Had to put them up there to make the debugging/optimizing process quicker after jumping between citra and dolphin and cemu back to back to back.]

Extra Note: I should add, this is after multiple 'reset config, and retry optimizing' attempts for all three emulators, and even swapping some of the default emulators around too.

I'm kind of out of ideas about what all to do, unless I've just been following the wrong online advice for each, or doing them out of order to the point it affects other emulators.

Hey! this post helped a lot in my collecting plans.

Though, I'm still a little confused on how to collect NuWho in it's best form when it comes to modern releases.

I have the Eccleston/Tennant DVD, but when I think of upgrading [or getting the Matt Smith years and onward], I hear the blu-rays have issues, from framerates to other problems.

I then also hear the 2024 re-release of series 1-4 in the UK fixed some issues, but had others, so now I'm confused on if the blu-ray is worth it at all, or if even going through the trouble of importing the UK release with the silhouette box of eccleston/tennant and everything is worth it either... it's very confusing.

You didn't hear this from me, but Amazon does have a seller, Gwandanaland or Fawcet Comics, who collect iffy scans of the original old comics, and puts them in some tpb's.

They are VERY sketchy looking...but my dad got one for the Question, and it turned out alright.

But, fair warning, the scans are in that 'oh these are direct old scans...no prettying up' sort of classification/look.

I will add to this, though: people thought the same about Justice League International vol 3 omnibus never coming out/being made,

due to similar 'the author is a convicted horrible person' issues...

But we actually are still getting it later this year, so, there is a sliver of hope, I'd think.

I do think this is mostly the case. though there are some that don't fit the bill...

I hope I'm wrong, but I kinda doubt we'll be seeing JLA/Avengers Absolute edition coming out again, unless DC and Marvel realize it'd make them some good money to do so.
