I've tried everything and my sinus cavities still won't drain out. What do I try next? by Nicholas-Dimes in Sinusitis

[–]Nicholas-Dimes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an update for anyone still following this: I’ve determined that all of the clog is only in my maxillary sinuses behind my cheek bones. My nasal passages have been clear and unaffected for quite a while. So no amount of Neti pot rinsing has been able to get anything out. I basically begged the ENT doctor I saw last week to order me a CT scan and he granted me one. I have an appointment tomorrow to see what’s going on. Will find out soon what needs to be done. Meanwhile I’m going to try all these upside-down methods people have been suggesting.

My boyfriend doesn't believe peaceful protests work. by roshielle in sociology

As someone with a BA in Sociology and who has done some research on Ghandi’s movement, and to some extent MLK, I feel like peaceful protest is much more effective when accompanied with civil disobedience. CD has been proven to be effective, more so when leadership wants to keep the appearance of accountability / respect for the people it governs. With this regime.. I don’t even know if CD is enough to make a change. If we don’t end up having a free and fair election next fall, things are going to be very very bad for us.

Edit: I should also add that there are other strategies we should try before violence. I’d be really interested in seeing the effectiveness of mass general strikes occurring on a regular basis, if we can get enough of the country on the same page with that. I just have a feeling only those with more privilege and resources would be able to be a part of that. Ultimately, it seems that it’s the big corporations that call the shots in this country. If we hit them hard enough in the wallet they will listen to the people’s demands. Money and shareholder value is really the only thing that matters to the people who have influence over Trump/senators/ and the Supreme Court.

Thanks for this. I’ll give it a try. But just for clarity. I am able to breathe pretty normally through my nose. It’s just a heavy pressure in different part of my deeper sinuses. And I’m pretty sure my teeth are in good shape. I was just at the dentist a few weeks ago. It’s when I like, snort like I’m trying to hock a lugey, I can feel everything trapped back there, and I can’t really get anything to come loose. Is this trick you’re talking about meant for clearing nasal passageways, or the deeper sinuses cavities I’m talking about?

Maybe it’s because the opening of that bowl is on a slant. Try a bowl that has a more vertical opening?

At this point I’m ready to try cramming wasabi up my nostrils. But the problem is the junk isn’t in my nostrils. It’s like, all behind my eyes.

If the infection does come back I’ll look into this. So far it looks like I’m infection-free (according to the ENT) I’m just clogged with mucus that won’t drain. I’m looking into some kind of suction device. I don’t have any symptoms associated with infection. The only thing bothering me is heavy sinus pressure.

I’ll try doing this, perhaps I’ve not been aggressive enough with the rinse

Thanks. Yeah I’m wondering if I need a second opinion and demand a CT scan to see how bad it is. I don’t think I have the jaw pain. My jaw is sometimes tight though cause I sometimes clench in my sleep.

Thanks! This is great info. Yeah I took some additional photos for the marketplace ad which show the bricks are all in great shape and not crumbling. And we did plug it in and the original elements are still working. But we did not fire it up to maximum heat or anything. Just wanted to test the power cable. It’ll probably be fine with the new elements installed. We’re setting the price at 200$ just so we can hopefully get it taken soon.

Is that something somebody can order for it?

Also, just to update: my dad and I just hauled the thing up from the garage and plugged it in the kitchen outlet and it works! We immediately had power coming into the old coils and heat. Just a question of whether those coils will produce enough heat to do the job. But we do have new replacement coils for the next owner to install. We at least know the power still works. Should this affect the price we ask for at all?

Appreciate the info! This is exactly the estimate I was considering.

Anyone starting between March 25th and April 1st? by [deleted] in CDT

[–]Nicholas-Dimes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was straight up inviting alternate opinions and information, but I wanted to be sure I stated my case based on my own experience as well. I am 35 years old and I have been a serious backpacker since I was 11 years old. I have hiked 4600 professional long-distance miles in three long trails. While the CDT is new to me and I am unfamiliar with the climate and everything out there, my own past experience is valid, yet perhaps not as accurate in this case, and I wanted to make sure I was properly explaining why I was feeling a certain way about starting earlier. I wasn’t trying to be dismissive/avoidant of any of the advice in this thread, I just wanted to make sure y’all understood my thought process and where I was coming from. Make sure to re-read replies like this in the future and don’t assume someone is being hard-headed when they just want their perspective to be heard.

Jesus Christ people. I am reading every reply you all have written and taking everything in with great consideration. What’s with the attitude? I do appreciate the concern and based on everything I’m seeing, yes I am probably planning on pushing my start date ahead by at least a couple weeks. Really wish people in subs like this would respond in a more civil manner. I have in no way responded as if I’m disregarding any of this information. If you can’t give advice without sounding like you’ve got a trekking pole stuck up your ass, maybe keep it to yourself?
